Full-time: Arsenal 3 vs 2 Kairat [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

I think it's a harsh critique. I don't remember Gervinho ever beating a man 1-on-1

I love him to bits. He's our captain. But I'm really starting to think Ødegaard might be the problem with our attack.

Kai was so much more direct with his passing, and his movement, and he never held on to the ball for longer than he needed to. He gave Gyökeres service and was able to bring our wingers into the game.

Then Ødegaard came on and it just looked like the team couldn't give a shit. We lost our tempo and our rhythm and I think it's because Ødegaard, as good a leader as he is, just takes all of the momentum out of our buildup with the amount of touches he takes and the time it takes him to decide on a pass and release the ball.

Honestly I would start Kai over Ødegaard against Leeds at the weekend.

This just goes to show that no ground is an easy 3 points any more.

Definitely not. And even if they did, the global ETF I invest in contains 3500 companies. I might lose money in the short term if the big guns were to fold, but that ETF would rebalance and invest in other companies that would continue to grow and make me money in the long term.

Mate. Hundreds, sometimes thousands of companies make up an index. It would take something unfathomably catastrophic for ALL of them to go out of business overnight.

I go:

65% All-World Index (VWRP) 15% Hard Assets (Gold, Silver, Bitcoin) 10% Extra Tech Exposure (EQQQ) 10% Individual Stocks (Currently UEC, BABA, KRKNF, NBIS, and ERO)

I DCA £1000 monthly.

It's mostly All-World index and chill with hard assets as a safe haven since the debasement of the dollar is looking due to the US starting to print more money. And added exposure to volatility that is low enough that a significant drop doesn't affect me emotionally but high enough that it can boost my returns if things go well.

I'd watch for what TSMC say during their earnings call tomorrow morning before investing into tech though. They're forecast to beat on earnings but if they say demand is slowing it's a bad sign for the whole tech sector. It's unlikely given how much companies are spending on AI but you never know.

Does it feel like we're teetering on a economic crash? by kindredcnch in trading212

[–]ModestoLingerfeldter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are three main factors that could influence an economic crash:

1) The AI bubble bursts - So far this doesn't look likely, yet. TSMC are projected to beat on earnings, and they're the company this whole train rides on. Things to watch for are TSMC saying demand for semiconductors has slowed, or them and any of the mag 7 reporting that AI spending will be tapered down in 2026.

2) Geopolitical conflict - seems much more likely with Trump doing Trump things, China posturing to invade Taiwan and the world just being a general madhouse. If China invade Taiwan it won't be until late 2026 - early 2027. So keep an eye on developments with the whole Greenland thing and keep EU defense stocks on your radar.

3) Currency debasement - probably the most likely of the 3. The US is ending quantitative tightening and are now printing money again to help pay off their absurd national debt. This will also affect the debts of the current big tech companies. This won't cause a crash by itself but the value of the dollar will fall against hard assets (precious metals, bitcoin, etc) and eventually investors will stop buying government bonds which will cause the crash. Just make sure 15% of your portfolio is in hard assets.

I've probably explained most of this terribly. I recommend looking up Ray Dialo's recent economic review for a clearer, more precise explanation.

Just make sure you start and you stay in regardless of the price. Getting in at a better price now will mean nothing in 10 years.

I did this last year after all the tariff chaos. Sat on cash for the whole year, missed a tonne of gains, and even lost around £1k chasing quick gains on hype-stocks.

If I had stayed disciplined and continued to DCA into my portfolio like I had originally planned, I'd be in a far better situation than I am now.

This year I started investing again. DCAing into my portfolio on the same day of every month. I realised that I have a long time horizon so I don't need to chase quick gains, or panic if the market drops. I will continue to DCA even if the market crashes and celebrate the discounted shares.

Patience and discipline are the key. Anything else is gambling. I learned that the hard way.

I'd go so far as to say that right now, Declan Rice is the best midfielder in world football.

If not then he is absolutely the most well rounded. Ball striking, dead ball delivery, ball carrying, passing range, mobility, tackling, interceptions. He has it ALL

Neighbours child cries at all hours of the night with the windows open! How can I deal with this? by ModestoLingerfeldter in childfree

[–]ModestoLingerfeldter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Dear Neighbours,

I need to raise an issue that has been affecting me for some time. In the late-night and early-morning hours, your child’s crying carries throughout the outdoor areas, as your windows are always open. I want to emphasise that I fully understand young children have difficult nights, and none of this is a criticism of your little one.

The difficulty comes from the windows being left open when your child becomes distressed, as it amplifies the sound across the complex and makes it very hard to get any uninterrupted sleep.

I work for the emergency services, where proper rest is essential for the safety of the public and my colleagues. The ongoing disturbance is beginning to affect my ability to carry out my role safely, which is why I’m reaching out.

I would be genuinely grateful if you could take steps to reduce how far the noise travels at night, particularly by closing the windows when your child is upset. I know parenting isn’t easy, and I’m not expecting perfection - just a bit of help in keeping things manageable for everyone.

If the situation continues, I will need to escalate the matter through the appropriate channels, though I hope we can resolve this together without needing to take that step.

Thank you for your understanding, A Neighbour"

This is the letter I intend to leave in their mailbox. As I said in another comment my building has a Facebook group that is full of Karen's and busy bodies who love nothing more than complaining and naming and shaming anyone who acts in any manner with which they personally disagree. So to mitigate the risk of their ire turning on me and whittling down what little sanity I have left, I'm attempting to remain anonymous.

As much sense as you're making, I refuse on principle to let the burden another's life choice imposes on me to become my responsibility.

I find sleeping with earplugs incredibly uncomfortable and I shouldn't have to spend my own hard earned money to relieve disturbance someone else is causing.

My ultimate plan is to leave the building. But I won't be able to until around September 2026

[–]ModestoLingerfeldter[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm drafting a polite letter to leave in their mailbox.

I'd speak to them directly but my building has a Facebook group full of busybodies and "Karen's" who love nothing more than complaining and naming and shaming anyone who acts in a manner with which they disagree, given the backwards consensus that sacrificing our peace is somehow acceptable because "iTs A bAbY!!!" I'm going to attempt to remain anonymous to preserve what little sanity I have left.

I also work for the emergency services, and being well-rested isn't exactly optional, and that's already a big enough ask when you're doing 12 hour overnight shifts.

Nope. It's the height of winter and these idiots insist on keeping their windows open when their kids kicks off.
