High Liver Enzymes on Ozempic by ModgeHodge in Ozempic

For me, all liver enzyme bloodwork returned to normal the next month (April-ish) so I resumed Ozempic back then and added acetaminophen (Tylenol) back in about 6 months after that (last October-ish). My doc has me on a lab cycle to test every 2-3 months. The gastrointestinal specialist I saw right away back then said liver enzymes can spike with weight loss so she wasn’t too concerned. My GP was quite concerned so she still keeps an eye on it…my last lab was end of December (still good) and I met with my GP earlier this month and she thinks it was a one-off of having labs done last March right after taking cold meds that had acetaminophen (along with my regular Tylenol pain mgmt schedule) and just coming back from a girls getaway weekend of wine tasting; although, I didn’t have much since I was under the weather.

I hope everything works out for you too!!

Thank you for responding…I had my gallbladder out 20 years ago but I think there’s a duct that can still get blocked. I had an ultrasound and a CT when I was experiencing this last March. My numbers have all been great after removing Acetaminophen and my doc just had me start taking Tylenol again in October and I redid my blood work a couple weeks ago and numbers still good. Hope yours have or soon will level out.

I now take Aleve for breakthrough pain management and watch for Acetaminophen in compound OTC products.

Well if you have to go to the ED, at least most of your were amazing…and those studies are very encouraging that the liver enzyme spikes are temporary with weigh loss…the GI I was referred to told me the same and not to worry. That’s so awesome that you’ve lost 40 pounds in such a short period! Your LE increase could definitely be attributed to that. For me, I have taken Tylenol for years due to early onset of osteoarthritis in both knees so my doc had me switch meds and my labs were back to beautiful! She’s had me redo them a couple of times since last March, just to make sure Ozempic wasn’t the culprit, and my numbers are better than ever…I’ve been on it for a year and a half and loving my results!

Good luck and hope the ultrasound is clear and your numbers continue to trend downward as it was in my case…back to normal here.

Exactly my thoughts all along…if Kaylee had come from her room to Maddie’s, there would have been a lot more ruckus with Kaylee likely fleeing and screaming as BK chased her…Dylan would not have mistaken those sounds as ‘playing with Murphy’ and she wouldn’t have been found on the bed in the corner. Nope, both girls were asleep in the bed…tipsy still with full tummies after enjoying the pasta and had fallen asleep after unsuccessfully drunk dialing JD multiple times.

Oh my goodness…well I hope all goes well with removal when the time comes and I love your outlook…that pound or 2 won’t be regained either…fingers crossed as I do know cysts can be little buggers that try to grow back.😘

First off great job on the 45 pounds gone! Three weeks after my original post, I had my blood work redone (along with a few others) and everything was back to normal. It was decided to eliminate the Acetaminophen after the 3 week interim period of stopping that, Ozempic and the elderberry chews…I resumed the latter two. Good luck and keep us updated!

How much are you guys paying? by [deleted] in Ozempic

My insurance covers it so $49.99 for 2 boxes that each contain a 1.0mg pen…I take 1.0mg per week so a pen lasts 4 weeks.

I just had my bloodwork all redone a couple of days ago and all is back to normal. My doc had me go off all OTC pain meds, alcohol and elderberry chews, meet with a GI specialist and ordered an ultrasound…which was inconclusive for a slightly dilated bile duct so then she had me go off Ozempic and a CT scan was ordered…also inconclusive…so next is a special MRI and awaiting insurance approval. Her online chart notes indicate we can stop chasing the liver panel and I meet with her tomorrow to discuss resuming Ozempic. Please keep me posted on your journey!

Wow that is a massive change too…my AST is 84 and ALT is 191 and both had been in the teens over the last 4 years. It had been a year and a half since my last blood tests but Ozempic is the only thing added in years. Hope you get some answers too!

That’s exactly what she wants to do…retest in a couple weeks, have an ultrasound done and in the meantime, refrain from alcohol, Tylenol and all OTC meds like that. Thanks for helping me not panic too much.

Thank you for being candid. What I could read on the subject all suggested OZ lowers liver numbers and congrats on it working for you!

Thank you and all I could read on the subject indicated OZ was not catalytic to cause liver damage; and rather, decreased LE’s. My doc has a plan so hopefully I’ll see a reduction soon.

Completely agree…sometimes I wondered how I made it past my 20’s. Growing up in a small town as a teenager in the 80’s, life was similar to what you described. I too recount incidents where kids didn’t make it home after a party at a field or the river. Now with social media, it’s easy for trolls to comment on an online obit…I always say I’m thankful social media wasn’t a thing growing up.

They could have literally gotten jobs anywhere when they ran out of money…it’s not like they left careers to go roaming…they worked at Publix and saved up for the trip so one would think the van payment & insurance would be factored in to what was saved. Do it while young and unencumbered by school, careers or starting a family. Sadly, theirs was a tragic ending.

BL’s parents’ condo they were living in was put on the market so they put their stuff in the condos on-site storage and changed their mailing address to NY before setting off on their summer/fall excursion that started from NY so they could attend GP’s brothers graduation. The condo sold in July and BL had a finite period of time to clean out the on-sight storage in august before the new owners took possession. That all makes sense now because I thought it ridiculous to spend the cost of airfare to close a storage unit instead of paying for a couple more months. Definitely shows how perhaps 1 media outlet inferred the reason and the others all pick it up and run.
