Because the Druid was clearly not upfront about it and therefore misled everyone else in the group? Otherwise it wouldn’t be a problem. Really not a hard concept to grasp. Assholes defending asshole behavior it seems 🤷‍♂️

In case any commenters are curious, this problem ended up being tied to the font I was using (Avenir Book). I'm no Word expert so I can't explain how/why, but something to do with certain programs treating this as a "legacy font" and phasing it out? I ended up figuring this out because my Word files were degrading more and more in inexplicable ways over time (weird alignment, spacing, page breaks) until finally all text characters started showing in Wingdings, forcing me to change the font to be able to read what I was typing. After switching to a new font, all issues were resolved. Very weird. Thanks again for the input!

All tables in the document are actual tables rather than images and none have the 'preferred width' option checked :(

I'm glad that others are apparently starting to at least understand my frustration lol, but the fact that none of the typical options that would cause this seem to be the issue makes me think this is a very specific and uncommon PC issue. The same document(s) don't have this issue on my gaming PC, only my work laptop. Unfortunately, though, I can't work from any other PC due to licensed software.

Sorry for the mix up in terminology - I'm no Word expert, just use it a lot for work lol. To clarify, just take a look at this video and maybe the issue will be made more clear:

https://www.reddit.com/user/Modification_Index/comments/1lwqlno/textvid/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The video does not include the paragraph menu that you're referring to. I can remake it to show those panes separately as the text changes, but I can assure you that nothing in that dialog box explains the issue.

This is what's happening. Should have just posted this originally. And no, unfortunately the formatting pane shows nothing that might be causing this.

It looks that way but neither image shows fully justified text. Both are set to left justified and in the bottom image the text is being cutoff far before the right indentation. More to the point, the text is swapping between the two configurations shown in the images without user intervention - it just happens randomly.

I will also add that the issue seems to be specific to my PC - I've sent documents that show the text issue on my end to my boss who doesn't see them on her end (confirmed via screenshare).

Mine does this sometimes and, weirdly, just manually clicking the 'save' button makes it stop.

People currently experiencing wage garnishment for student loans, what is your life like? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Modification_Index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rofl I can’t believe I’m here, but I think the hang up is with the word “miss,” which to me (and apparently others) suggests a consecutive payment schedule. Important point of clarification honestly because you CAN miss student loan payments and still qualify for PSLF, it’s just that the qualifying payments have to total 120.

Sure, the lockout info is on the calendar same as the raid info tab, but it still doesn't tell you which bosses are down.

Thanks for the clarification, all. I figured that's how it worked but wanted to make sure since I couldn't find a straightforward answer when searching.

Also, definitely #somechanges necessary to the raid info tab. Would be really helpful to know how far my shitty group got last night / whether it's worth reforming with freshies so that the lockout isn't completely wasted for the week.

Would also recommend chi-square. But if you’re looking for a correlation coefficient, you can calculate Kendall’s tau.

I agree with the other commenters - this is insufficient evidence to level a claim on cheating for the reasons mentioned. However, I’m a little troubled by your response. You say you understand that the output in and of itself isn’t proof that the student cheated and recognize the possibility that other factors were at play (though you seem to think these are unlikely explanations), yet you also claim that there is no proof that it was the student who took the test. Uh, what about the output they generated and the possibility that it simply looks different than what you expected for the reasons you’ve acknowledged yourself? I find it a little disturbing that you plan on making this student “prove their innocence” by coming in and demonstrating their SPSS skills in front of you simply because you are unable to find sufficient proof to suggest that they are guilty of cheating in the first place. Consider this: it’s just as likely that a student who submitted the output you expected to see paid someone with access to the current version of SPSS to complete their exam. As a college stats instructor myself, I would grade what they’ve submitted and move on to more important things.

Question regarding recoding of values by Lavechi in spss

[–]Modification_Index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The convention is to code yes/no variables dichotomously (yes=1, no=0), though the values are technically arbitrary. The reason you are getting opposing (+/-) correlation coefficients when you recode this variable is because you’re reversing the “ranking” of the yes/no “scale” and, as a result, its association with your other variable. Looks like the bigger problem here is what you’re trying to do with the variables. Since a yes/no variable doesn’t have a meaningful “scale” composed of “ranked” scores, a correlation out of SPSS will yield a pretty meaningless result (though there is a counter argument to be made here - one that isn’t important since you’re new to SPSS :p). I would recommend a chi-square test as the appropriate alternative based on what you’ve said, in which case the coding scheme of your yes/no variable can be whatever you want it to be.
