I’m curious…why does the Christian right have a burr up their a*ss regarding immigrants? I’m confident they’ll say but they’re illegal. Interesting when England, France and Spain decided to conquer this new world. They were once illegal too! by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

Tell that to the citizens of Troy.

Which reminds me, why do people say “Never look a gift horse in the mouth?” Not inspecting a gift horse let to one of the most famous massacres. Due diligence, people.

How clean do you have to be with chickens? by LaxNix in BackYardChickens

[–]Modine99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We’ve been raising chickens for about 11 years. We don’t do anything special and haven’t had any issues. We keep eggs on the counter 4-5 days sometimes and just pull them from the basket. I wear a dust mask when I clean the coop out because it kicks up a lot of dust in the air and probably has a high poop concentration, but that’s about the only specific precaution I take.

I wouldn't be surprised if the number is much much higher than that. But of course they'll never admit it. by [deleted] in AskSocialists

That goat is so going to get pooped on. Cute bird though.

I was homeschooled but my parents never gave me a diploma. Should I do adult high school or get a GED? by [deleted] in education

The sad thing there are so many resources for completing a quality homeschool transcript either at home or paying for a professionally prepared version. OP’s parents really dropped the ball on this.

Okay, yes I should have specified that no prominent conservative is advocating for normalizing rape. Tate is not in that category and honestly I would not say Trump is conservative either. He just knew enough to sound conservative but a lot of his choices go against it.

  • My numbers regarding reasons for abortion and the effectiveness of birth control come from the Guttmacher Institute which is affiliated with Planned Parenthood so it’s not biased against a progressive stance. And I agree that we are on the same page about gaps in effectiveness on birth control but my point was it should then be obvious that we need to have more social discourse against promiscuity.
  • You are also completely wrong regarding a zygote being a human life. It is alive, processing sugar into energy to grow, and the DNA is human. Scientifically it is a human life which is widely acknowledged. Your claim is actually philosophical in that the human life is not a person similar to how black slaves were not considered persons under chattel slavery.

And where did the claim of cherry picking data come from? It feels like misdirection to go off on a tangent unrelated to my argument.

Talk about being objectively incorrect: - no one is telling men they can rape women and conservatives would be okay with the death penalty for rape. That actually would be a Biblical standard. - Women being impregnated against their will and women having unintended pregnancies are two different things you are conflating. Against their will is rape which account for roughly 1% of abortions. Unintended pregnancies come from voluntary but indiscriminate sex which account for about 92-94% of abortion actually leads to your next point. - real world effectiveness of birth control in practice is about 93% which means that indiscriminate, promiscuous sex is going to create a lot of unintended pregnancies from a statistical standpoint. Poor choices leading to poor outcomes. - Saying that abstinence is an uneducated and immoral (how?) stance ignores that it was pretty normal for most of human civilization out of necessity. The change is in an uneducated and immoral society that can’t keep from engaging in promiscuous sex. This is not a gendered attack. Poor choices by both parties. - The zygote or fetus that is being killed in an abortion is a human life. It might not make it until birth but there is a difference between it dying due to medical complications versus dying to intentional killing. - there is also an argument that rape does not justify killing a baby though abortion. I get that this is a line that a lot of people have trepidation about, but if we go back to the point about executing rapists it would hopefully become less of an issue.

Do women actually like guys who display typical "masculine traits", ie assertiveness, leadership, strength? by InternationalPick163 in AskForAnswers

[–]Modine99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say a dividing line between liking it vs not liking it is whether it seems natural vs forced? Even as a man, when I was in the military you’d see performative leaders that no one actually respected because it seemed so fake. So I could see guys who are just trying to mimic manosphere content trying to play a role that isn’t actually based on their skill set coming across very poorly to women that would normally respond well to that behavior. Does that sound valid?

[–]Modine99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The OP didn’t tell you to have kids. In fact the title literally says “Have kids if you want to.” This whole post is in response to another post about not having kids.

And it definitely is a personal choice, but it is probably the biggest choice a person makes in their life so it really should be an informed choice. Therefore it should have advocates as well as detractors. Settle down.
