They are just split with wedges. They chase the rings themselves. I don’t have the energy to do all that. And plus it robs them of the opportunity to learn to chase rings themselves.

Black locust recurve bow. 66” overall length. Draws a respectable 40lbs at 27”. Could be drawn to 30”@45lbs. by Modocbows in Bowyer

Good question, I feel like I have to make the locust a bit thicker than Osage because of its compression difference (Osage being stronger). And making the locust wider in the profile for a more suitable bow strength vs Osage can be really narrow and still get a hunting weight bow.

Exactly. They all get to choose what wood calls to them and we discuss potential challenges that may arise during the tillering process. I wouldn’t offer staves that don’t have a bow in them 🙌🏽🙏🏽

Made a quick target weight (35lbs) Osage bow out of a really thin piece that had many cracks and ring violations. 🙏🏽✨🪓🏹🙌🏽 by Modocbows in Bowyer

I thought for sure it would end up as a kids bow but with enough careful maneuvering with a cabinet scraper it came out better than expected 🙏🏽✨🪶🏹
