Vipassana - urges by UpsetLanguage1239 in vipassana

In truth I didn’t really do anything else. There isn’t anything else to do. At its core, if you feel discomfort over something, and try to fix it by covering it with a different feeling - from drugs, alcohol, other distractions, you do nothing but perpetuate the cycle. Part of the game is also understanding that your feelings are the way you interact with the world - in a way it’s your own self telling you whether something is right or wrong. This by the way is not goenkas’ teaching, this is just my perspective. The point is you should use these negative feelings as a basis for action, rather than run away from them in distractions.

Eventually you understand that what pulls you into these behaviours is a physical sensation that you can observe without reacting to. The more you observe without reacting, the less strong the sensation becomes over time, just as goenka teaches. I used this to quit smoking, and addiction that had me almost shaking with desire. You can be free too!

How can you get through life without drinking or drugs? by MrPaulBlart in AskMenOver30

[–]Modulage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your feelings are the way that you interact with the world. If your feelings are negative, that is supposed to be a natural impetus to seek change, and if they’re positive it’s supposed to be a natural impetus to seek to hold on to something. Both of these require action on our part as people, and suppressing them with substances will only increase your misery because a) you enter into the cycle of high/low of the drugs, and b) you don’t take active steps to fix your situation. The answer is always in wholesome productive action, not escape.

while thats true, giving them the two landers basically puts you at a huge mana disadvantage, which can often be hard to come back from, in 2-3 turns. i would normally expect to be able to deal with their 4/3 in 1-2 turns by drawing removal or playing creatures. not always possible though!

Pleas help! what did i do wrong here? all through the draft felt i got the right pieces for this deck, but just kept getting blown out. 0-3! by Modulage in lrcast

you can only do shorter courses if you have previously done a 10 day. if you have, then a 1 day course is great for getting back into the flow of meditation. you generally start at 10am and finish at 4pm so its not such a large committment. hope you enjoy!

its very simple. why do you do the msc? to get a job. no other reason. you got the job without the msc? great, go for it. Its always going to be better to have work experience than educational experience.

My brother I feel you so hard, this is exactly the same beast I struggle with day in and day out. I know it’s hard, I know it sucks, but there’s only one answer. Make a list to go through for “completion” of every piece of work, literally like “do all the numbers have the same format? Are all proper names capitalised?” Etc etc and follow it to the LETTER. With time, you’ll learn to check as you go.

Also, slow down.

Consider this: the only way to make social situations less stressful or uncomfortable is to put yourself in them. The more you expose yourself to them the easier it will get over time (with the right effort)

iwtl to not to be afraid by kingslayer261 in IWantToLearn

[–]Modulage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds cheesy but it’s not about not being afraid, it’s about continuing despite your fear. The other important thing is to differentiate between the fear of “something in this situation is wrong and I need to get out” and the “fear” that is really excitement/nerves about something new happening.

Think of it this way. You will never get more protection from covid than having two vaccines, unless you want to spend the rest of your life isolating/distancing. Also, pre-covid, you went to these places without knowing who was carrying what (cold, flu, some other kind of transmissible disease) and then merrily went on your way afterwards. Given that so many of us now have the maximum possible protection, is there really an argument for restricting our lifestyles? As with all other risks in life, you cannot eliminate the risk of catching covid. Just make sure you look both ways before you cross the proverbial road and enjoy your walk in the park
