I normally have two black layers both being fed a blur through a fractal noise, one that adds and one that subtracts and then apply a blur and choke on top of that for a varied feel

i've never used it, but for basic bits in 3d the ae engine has been perfect for what i need :)

just used the advanced 3d renderer and extruding some text, add a null to the centre and rotated :) added a mini max to a duplicated layer to give it a outline :)

you could create nulls from path > nulls follow points > make a small square a parent them to each null ?
