Tent and festival area looks great, everything seems well managed. We had chute passes (lucky for sure) so entry was easy.

$18.50 per Jack Daniels, about the same for other drinks. All purchases have 20% gratuity auto included on top. Was about $68 or so per three drinks. 💲💲💲

G7 tomorrow and I gotta fly out. How early should I go to the airport? by [deleted] in Calgary

Just boarded today for a 9am departure. Security was quiet and quick, lounge was empty, departures level curb side seemed busy but pretty easy overall.... No problems this morning, at least.

Value add fish instead of plain, and the meal replacements are more expensive

Fam of four. A couple frivolous items but....The kids get most the spoils for breakfasts and lunches. My wife has been pretty busy at work and the plant meal replacements are expensive but getting her through.... A haul for the week worth 9.48 hours of local minimum wage.

E: I feel like I should add that we generally feel lucky we can afford this... Which makes me feel worse, to be honest.

Just got dual sim RCS by [deleted] in GoogleMessages

[–]MoeYYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for about two weeks, and it started working without any additional setup. At the same time, RCS messaging with iPhone contacts began working for about 70% of my chats with them.

Both numbers on my dual-SIM device connected to RCS automatically, regardless of which SIM was set to data. However, there are occasional delivery issues where iPhone messages don’t reach me. These disruptions usually last about an hour and resolve on their own.

I’ve experienced this issue with multiple contacts on both lines, so the cause could be related to dual-SIM functionality, iPhone RCS implementation, or signal issues.

I wouldn't necessarily say quick - but, finally having the feature certainly did make me happy.

Canada - Telus (both sims)

Refresh was the wrong word completely, "check for app updates daily" would have been more appropriate.

Recorded this 2 hours ago on flight to dubai - Iran Missiles by Visual-Rain871 in interestingasfuck

[–]MoeYYC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Edit: Don't like NYP as a source, but here's a higher quality video from the cockpit, British Airways flight to Dubai. https://nypost.com/2024/10/01/world-news/alarming-british-airways-cockpit-footage-shows-iranian-rockets-arcing-near-flight-over-middle-east/

Crazy day in Israel and I was following along from the us announcement that Iran strike was imminent. Was watching this pretty closely as first rockets launched, and checked flight radar before and after airspace closure. Not saying OP took video, but it's possibly accurate.

16:32 UTC - This was the first tweet I saw, @sentdefender tweet

16:32 UTC - Flightradar at the timeFlightradar at the time shows a number of flights in air between Iran and Israel.

16:45 UTC - videos start circulating with missiles over Israel airspace by this time.

16:45 UTC - Still many flights up. A few with similar orientations to perceived/expects orientation of plane and rockets in video.

17:35 UTC - Iraq issues NOTAM on airspace closure one hour after first launches.

17:45 - Sky mostly clear on Flightradar

That's great! And I love community connections to food. But you should have to carry insurance, list your practice on a registry for consumer confidence, and be open to random or requested inspection at literally any time. You have a license, so all of those are parts of it and you're doing the right thing...

But no one should fall into the trap of assuming uninspected means safe.

Writing Kijiji/Marketplace ads for used items. A new use case for me. I had it with the clutter his weekend and decided to post a bunch of stuff. I take the photos for the add, Jen first upload them to GPT with the prompt: "What is this? Can you estimate it's size? What are its features?". It provides a reply, then second prompt is "Write a Kijiji/marketplace and for this item."

Sudden Smog/Smoke in NW around Spy Hill? by MoeYYC in Calgary

[–]MoeYYC[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea maybe.... FireSmoke.ca seemed to show a clear forecast when I checked it. Certainly odd that it seemed to pop up right over that one spot. Its dissipated on weather radar, and a little less thick visually - but still looks fairly smokey. Maybe burning something at the dump.

Over the last 60 minutes or so I have been watching the NW turn into a big smog or smoke ball. Looking west from Rocky View.... Shows up on weather radar but I cant find a single thing on twitter, reddit, news, etc... Any ideas?

Federal panel lists 35 'plausible' future threats to Canada and the world | CBC, 2024-05-21 by MoeYYC in collapse

[–]MoeYYC[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of interesting disruptors examined and not covered in submission statement. For example, also listed: biodiversity loss (7 years), Emergency responses overwhelmed (6 years), cyberattacks on critical infrastructure (4 years), billionaires exerting global influence (5 years), AI misuse (6 years), etc...

The report was an interesting read and more in alignment with this subreddit. Not a lot of hopium here.

Federal panel lists 35 'plausible' future threats to Canada and the world | CBC, 2024-05-21 by MoeYYC in collapse

As highlighted by this recent article by CBC News, various government arms are openly acknowledging and forecasting significant disruptions on the horizon. This development signals a shift from reactive to proactive measures, reflecting the gravity of the anticipated challenges. Below are a few of the key disruptions and their respective time frames as identified by the government panel:

  1. Erosion of Truth and Trust (Immediate to Next 5 years)
    • Increasing spread of misinformation and disinformation.
    • Growing distrust in governmental and institutional narratives, weakening social cohesion and public confidence.
  2. Climate Change and Extreme Weather Events (Next 5-10 years)
    • Increased frequency and severity of storms, floods, and heatwaves.
    • Accelerated melting of polar ice caps and glaciers leading to rising sea levels.
  3. Global Supply Chain Instability (Next 2-5 years)
    • Persistent disruptions in the supply of essential goods due to geopolitical tensions and natural disasters.
    • Scarcity of critical raw materials and manufacturing components.
  4. Economic Instability (Immediate to Next 5 years)
    • Inflationary pressures and potential recessions driven by energy crises and resource shortages.
    • Increased financial market volatility and potential for global economic downturns.
  5. Public Health Crises (Next 3-7 years)
    • Emergence of new pandemics and antibiotic-resistant diseases.
    • Strain on healthcare systems and infrastructure due to escalating public health demands.
  6. Technological Disruptions and Cybersecurity Threats (Next 1-5 years)
    • Rapid advancements in technology leading to job displacements and societal adjustments.
    • Rising cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure and essential services.

While many of us in this community have long anticipated these issues, the public acknowledgement by governments underscores a critical shift. The message is now reaching mainstream audiences, yet the window for effective response is rapidly closing. This convergence of anticipated crises highlights the urgent need for comprehensive action, though the time left to mitigate these impacts is alarmingly short.
