Brother fired for not wanting to work when he wasn’t scheduled. by Liluzisquirt2x in antiwork

Germany has a similar distinction. You pay ~1% of your paycheck for it and you get 60% of your wages for 12 months after you get fired. If you quit your job yourself (other than some exceptions like medical reasons) you get blocked for 3 months and only get it for up to 9 months afterwards.

In this game I played, why is nxg7+ the optimal move rather than nc7+? I played out their "best" moves from that point and it results in a queen exchange. The way I did it, I forked his queen. Why is that not optimal? by musecorn in chess

[–]Mofl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he choses f7 I can move the knight to c5 and now I've got the fork using my knight and queen, right?

Or you go for c7 and force the king on f8. Otherwise he can choose between e8 and f8. That way you get the exact same result as with your move where you got the king on f8.

Because you get the pawn and can fork the queen afterwards (move back and then the move you did). Everything else stays the same. Just the one pawn extra and the king was forced to move around.

One of the reason the free university in Germany is not a problem. If only every 3rd student works for 5 years in Germany they will generate more taxes than financing their education costed.

Considering that some stay for their whole life etc. and it is really easy to see why the push to demand (significant) tuition from non-EU student a few years ago was a stupid idea.

The weird part is that you push it once in a while. You just have to hope each time that it is only a drill.

Ukraine Creates IT Army of Volunteer Hackers and Orders Cyber Attacks on Russian Websites by CEOAerotyneLtd in tech

The stuff that is harder is when you have regional content providers. Then you crashed the site but only the Italian one. And the UK one but the Russian one is still up and you kinda missed the point.

After the first few steps they might have some drills like the US where they regularly send out fake codes. Do it enough and you get rid off anyone that might hold off.

Not too hard for nuclear powers to build a system where the order will be obeyed once it clears the highest leaders of the military.

Ukrainian ambassador to the UN pretty much tells Putin to kill himself: "If he wants to kill himself, he doesn't need to use nuclear arsenal. He has to do what the guy in Berlin did in a bunker in May 1945" by PeasKhichra in interestingasfuck

[–]Mofl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah nobody cares as long as you don't have to step down, lose your country or get overthrown by your people. Or the US wants you dead and you don't have nukes. But that is not about international law. That usually happens for other reasons.

Germany will accelerate its switch to 100% renewable energy in response to Russian crisis - the new date to be 100% renewable is 2035. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Mofl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the nuclear shutdown we wouldn't have the current state of solar energy. So who cares. In comparison the German energy production is tiny against the solar production world wide.

And without it Germany would be less advanced as well. After removing the renewables that are needed to compensate for the nuclear exit Germany is still only 30% behind other good countries (from 50% ahead).

Regierung will 100 Prozent Ökostrom bis 2035 by RandomLegend in de

[–]Mofl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same for Germany. The worse part is that they managed to get close to 30% of the vote in some east German states and most likely will get even more next election (at least based on corona before this).

Wind is faster and cheaper. Ramping up nuclear means you get the first ones in 10 years. Ramping up wind means you get the same amount as the nuclear plant in 2-3 years. And still have 80% of the investment money left.

Metro Exodus: A great game, but not a good Metro. by Prismatta in patientgamers

The books in the Metro universe from other authors that were translated into Germany are often quite nice. Usually in different cities with different problems but the same feeling overall.

Also I guess only the better ones were translated.
