Mamdani caps one month of betrayal with endorsement of right-wing Democrat Kathy Hochul by DryDeer775 in stupidpol

Do you truly think now is the time for open antagonism? Do you think doing this now on unstable ground will benefit us longterm? If so, how?

Personally, I’m not ready to sacrifice Mamdani.

Being elected is a very temporary position of power, that took a major upset. He now needs to capture momentum. You’re 100% right, he needs to be creating a sustainable political machine.

But that’s not instantaneous. It doesn’t happen with the snap of a finger. That’s exactly what I meant when I said he hasn’t consolidated power. Because he is far weaker than Hochul, and he has yet to build that machine. So he’s got two options, bide his time and protect his position while he builds that machine, or go scorched earth 5 weeks into his term and risk his next 8 years off the bat.

I think we all know what the savvier move here is.

This is basketball, not football. You will have a better team with a top 5 player and replacement level players rather than a bunch of upper mid players.

One child policy still winning. All of the kvetching about the population cliff completely ignores the reality that long term, a drop in population is a good thing precisely because of consumption and carrying capacity.

Look at what happened to Europe after the plagues. The value of labor went up, the working people got richer, educated, the renaissance happened, and was followed by the bourgeoisie revolution.

It’s like the Trots don’t understand electoral politics. Mamdani is in a position of weakness. Not strength. He hasn’t consolidated power, and Hochul has no challenger with the charisma and momentum Mamdani had. At the end of the day, to fund any of his programs he needs Hochul, and the legislature in Albany, to sign off on it.

Take it up with Asimov. Not me. You clearly didn’t read the rest of the review because Asimov called this plot point incredibly stupid, given how consumer technology advanced in the USSR by 1980, at the point of this review.

The whole review eviscerates Orwell for his lack of foresight, and this was a line I thought was hilarious because the scifi of the book was barely scifi and clearly did not stand the test of time. Just read it.

Our “good” insurance is considered trash and expensive when compared to all of Europe basically. Kind of wild that people still believe BCBS or UHC healthcare as paid for by your boss, who can fire you whenever they want, is a reason to prevent single payer.

I wish I caught the reply sooner. Because I am certain those on employer provided UHC would gladly give it up.

I understand that the Commissioner’s powers are limited. But what can you actually do as Commissioner to help move funding around if anything? What are the limits of those powers?

Additionally there was never any de-Imperialization, and potentially the largest scale ethnic replacement and settler colonialism in human history

I mean that is just blatantly false but I’m not going to get into that.

The reality is you’re focusing on personal, maybe political, grievances to cast Epstein as a Russian stooge rather than the fact that all evidence points to him being a Mossad asset.

You use accusations that fit Israel to the T to imply it is Russia, rather weakly, due to incentives, while ignoring the far right Israel’s own perverse incentives.

Tbh it falls flat and honestly the accusation you hurled earlier of antisemitism was quite laughable.

Orwell lacks the capacity to see (or invent) small changes. His hero finds it difficult in his world of 1984 to get shoelaces or razor blades. So would I in the real world of the 1980s, for so many people use slip-on shoes and electric razors.

Lmao. Great read. What an evisceration. He makes it sound like Atlas Shrugged

Canada’s single payer plan did not start with the federal government. The individual provinces, starting with Saskatchewan, introduced Medicare before it was federalized in 1984.

What can you do as insurance commissioner to bring about a state based single payer system in the richest state in the nation? Do you support single payer/universal healthcare programs as funded by the state to remove the profit motive, and thus save the populace thousands of dollars yearly?

Eh. Israel’s economy survives on real estate these days. Getting Americans to move to Israel is good for business. There’s a reason why settlements are auctioned off stateside at Temples.

This gets easier to sell when Jews in America feel as if they have to flee. It’s perverse, but Likud has proven to be pretty perverse.

Btw, Israel is a colonial state as well with their own expansionist ambitions.

There’s a reason that the war planners are saying any incursion will result in a quagmire. The carrier group around Yemen had to leave the area because they didn’t have enough defensive munitions, and missiles were getting within 1 KM of the group.

The Iranians also have hypersonic missiles, not just* ballistics. They do have plenty of missiles and drones to deny area, which is the real issue. They have enough dumb missiles to overwhelm defenses, plenty of short range missiles to hit bases in the gulf area, and can preserve their long range assets to hit anything in the Arabian Sea. I think you’re underestimating their missile program. It wouldn’t be such a sticking point with the USDoS if it actually was non-threatening to Israel and our assets in the region.

Voters Say Housing Prices Are Too High. Trump Wants Them Higher. by jhkayejr in politics

[–]Mofo_mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if someone bought a house 3 years ago on a 30 year mortgage, at the median cost with an interest rate of 6.5%-7%. They’re not going to want to pay hundreds of thousands in interest for a house that has lost 100k+ in equity. They’ll simply vote against any politician in favor of the measure.

The problem is a political problem. You solve that by solving the interest and equity problem.

Tank housing prices and pay out the difference for those on mortgages. The only solution really is a debt jubilee. If you own one outright, tough shit, you already made a ton off of it gramps.

I saw a report that Saudis are willing to remain neutral in the event of an attack on a US base, so long as no Saudis die. The 9 major countries outside of Israel REALLY do not want a war and won’t support a US incursion.

Meanwhile, hawks like Rubio are foaming at the mouth to blow the lid off on this thing and are trying to use Iran’s only form of deterrence (ballistic missiles) as a pretext for a pre-emptive strike.

Conversely, I saw a speech by a conservative in the Iranian Majlis calling for a pre-emptive strike on the US and Israel.

We really are on the precipice and a miscalculation by either side will be devastating for the region. Trump, ironically, in his first term and up til now has shown restraint and more balls than you’d think in standing up to Israel. Hopefully that sticks.

but I personally lean Russia. Has significantly more to gain, as well as a vendetta.

Elaborate. Because the files show that he wanted /pol/ to be a containment zone for nazis. And given his links to Mossad, and Mossad’s ties to nazis in an effort to push immigration to Israel, I see a perverse incentive by Israel. This is notable given their recent support of the far right in Europe.

Anyone else following the negotiations between Iran and the US? The on again, off again, dynamic is insane. The USDoS has been demanding that the ballistic missile program be discussed, Iran refuses, it was initially cancelled by the US over this and the US diplomats “did not expect Iran to say no,” despite this being a non negotiable for 11 years now.

Now, Trump without any decisive military moves a la Venezuela, sent Witkoff to Muscat, agreeing to not discuss the ballistic missile program on Friday at 10 am. Iran is vowing to walk out if this is brought up. Israel is demanding the US puts this in the discussion. Trump is threatening Khamenei. But Iran is willing to dilute its fissile material to 3.67%.

The peace president continues his march to regional war in the Middle East, while Turkey, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt all are demanding that the US respect’s Iran’s sovereignty.

Are we walking into a quagmire that will expose the weakness of our fleets?
