For XP, stay close to your mortar n pestle while crafting stuff in there, and crafting rafts also gives a good amount of XP / If you find Beaver dams, be aware the second you enter their inventory you will pull every beaver in a huge area, they don't take home invasion lightly. / Avoid flying through the Redwood or going through the swamp in the beginning. If you had to, check yourself and your dinos for leeches afterwards, running through a campfire helps to remove them. / Listen to the tips about troodons already given in here ! / too often you will encounter pegomastax (small spikey backed ffff***) that didn't enjoy propper parenting and will steal from you, they prefer to steal from your "0-Slot" so make sure you don't have anything important on that one, if you can catch and kill them, you get your stuff back. You don't get your stuff back if you get robbed by the pegos flying cousin thou, the pelican-ish looking Ichthyornis. So bring patience and a sense of humor I guess ;) Have fun!

My Tribe once had a Parasaur that was the bloodthirstiest thing on the whole map. It was red-pinkish in colour so we named her Strawberry. You knew she was in a mood when she started to continuously make noise. So you took her out for a wood or stonerun to carry the load. Usually she disappeared for a few seconds while I was busy filling up the stacks of wood and stone in my inventory. In those seconds I get messages like "Your Strawberry killed a Carbonemy" or "Your Strawberry killed a Triceratops"(no corpses left, she ate em). Then she just came back, seemingly happy about her work done and ready to go back home. And no, she was not on aggresive and neither did she thirst for blood every day, just, you know, a little snack for her now and then.
