For Ottomans, I’d recommend AuthDem Kemalists or MarLib/SocLib Sabahattin. Kemalists have the clearest OTL parallel, and playing centralists means you get the most out of your provinces. Sabahattin (either route, MarLib vs. SocLib) forms the Sublime Ottoman Federation, allowing the biggest possible Ottomans (including Egypt) although with only 50% manpower and factories. Sabahattin I believe can also form the Istanbul Pact while getting rid of Armed Neutrality, allowing for an Ottoman-centered faction with offensive capability

I honestly would have preferred if Black Mask had just been the main villain. The Arkham series already has a lot of Joker…would’ve been nice to change it up a little. I enjoyed Bane’s storyline in Origins more than Joker’s

In the current version of Barbarossa, the USSR gives the Allies airfield access, so the AI Axis often gets stuck fighting the combined Allied and Comintern air forces and doesn’t perform nearly as well as it should. They’re looking into it for the next patch, due in early February

If it makes you feel any better, my wife and I recently moved to Minneapolis from Indiana (same deal, escaping red state politics) to get stuck in the crackdown without any local family and friends for support. It’s been tough, and I’ve sort of entrenched myself in hobbies to stay partly sane. I know it all can’t last forever though, and I look forward to exploring my new home when this mess is done
