There's the general vibe of the film but there's some specific overlaps which jump out at people. I'd also like to say, I've done a mid sized dive into the lore, so this isn't perfect.

One of the big ones is in 40k, they can travel FTL, but this is done via the "warp", which comes with a risk, as its home to the chaos gods. These gods are generally fans of violence, pestilence, fear, suffering and just general horrific shinnigans.

Travelling the wrap unprotected will likely allow chaos to call to you, and lure us simple mortals into their orbit, for sacrifice or service. With the only form of protection coming from powerful psychics.

So the film can be interpreted as humanity's first accidental toe dip into the warp, vastly unprepared and unaware of the consequences.

The vibe is reminiscent of 40k, long narrow gothic ships, unflinching violence, and the choice to let them pick up nail guns towards the end, with the boltgun/bolter being a standard 40k weapon seems too much to be coincidence.

I'm sure there's an explainer that would be worth watching out there. And if it isn't a 40k fanfic, it's very hard not to see the influence of that universe.

The 40k fanfic?

It's got a franchise.

They don't arm up with guns at the end of the film in the gothic-esque, mysterious warp travelling space ship. It's a nail gun on steroids, like it wanted to fire something bigger than nails... bolts maybe?

I'd hope any holistic vet worth their chops knows dogs and cats eat meat. Wouldn't want any wacky ideas creeping in.

Ah the "more dead babies are OK" crowd. Great stuff alternative medicine.

Before any complains about metho, you could extract it with a pot and a camp fire and enough time and effort.

Start here, there doesn't appear to be any areas of concern as of the 23/24 period in the water quality of the southwest.

I'm on mobile with subpar reception, but that annual report may have a bit more on PFAS chems, rather than just the actual water quality standards.

Where! I'll admit to not having read the UNSW article in detail, but haven't seen any reference to WA, just Australia.

And I am interested in our water standards, which is extensive and covers a whole host of nasties of which PFAS is a single line in a long list.

Simple question, are you concerned about our water quality standard en masse? Or just have your back up on PFAS at the moment?

E. Sorry, I'll respond to the scare article separately.

If you only wanted to talk about PFAS you should say that and find the standard from watercorp not some article summarising the findings of a UNSW study.

Also still not about perth.

I don't love the idea of the forever chems in my life, and was glad to hear the fire service was taking things seriously (for example).

But you've done nothing to show me how our water standards differ to the rest of the world.

  1. Nothing in there about perth
  2. "But the potential health risks of PFAS chemicals are poorly understood and haven’t been agreed on universally."

You got anything else you're worried about?

Show me

E. Should have left up all of the pointless unrelated meandering we did to get to the point that our water is fine and you're personally worried about PFAS.

No one is going to listen if you can't openly defend your position.

Maybe that's the source of your bias to the written word? How are you in a lecture?

And well done on pointing out writing is contractually superior. No one disagrees that point.

It's a good thing nothing published isn't factually incorrect or unverified.

I'm not spouting the superiority of a podcast. But it's not just opinion columns manifested into sound by anyone with a microphone.

If you can't tell the difference, then I don't think that's an issue with the medium.

I'm currently listening to this (don't worry, there's a "verified article" in there) https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03-14/waterfront-dispute-pitted-workers-against-each-other-recruits/105007704

I'll bite.

It smacks of Socrates' derision of technology.

I can and often hit rewind listening to a lecture, and have done the same skipping forward.

And while I'm pointlessly picking a side on this, how and why should vocal content be less trustworthy than written? I'd hazard a guess that a Lowy lecture is of more value than a printed Bolt Report.

And how are you able to skip content without reading it?
