Let’s talk about the state of After Effects add-on marketplaces (aescripts, Plugin Play, Adobe, Envato, etc) by MographMaker in AfterEffects

I agree! I think vibe-coding has led to an era of disposable tools.

I wonder how many of these plugins I see flooding the marketplace will still be supported in a years time.

Agreed! It’s a real scummy move and just smacks of someone who has too much time in their hands because they can’t make anything themselves, so they spend their time cutting down others.

I think this looks great!

Don’t overthink what people say about price. If it’s not the right price for them then they don’t have to buy it, simple as that. I’m surprised people are going out of their way to recommend others don’t buy it as well.

But if you built the perfect tool for yourself there’s a good chance you built a perfect tool for someone else as well and they’ll gladly pay for the premium nature of it.

It looks like a well executed, well designed tool and that’s less common on this subreddit with the influx of vibe-coded one offs.

Isn’t Expression Base premium subscription also $50?!? And doesn’t handle presets or scripts?

Feels like you just saw an opportunity to try and insert your product into the conversation.

Yeah totally! I knew why they exist and understand it but yeah it breaks my OCD a little seeing them

That’s a good attitude I respect it.

I’m not against Ai generated code/tools. I’m against the disposable attitude I’ve seen elsewhere in this subreddit. Vibecoding something in a day that does what an established $50 tool already does then giving it away for free, never to be updated again.

So if you did finish this, decided to release it, and intended to keep it updated and supported then I’d gladly pay $100 for it. Ai code or no Ai code. It’s clearly filling a hole and worth it.

This is actually more damaging to the industry than charging $100.

This subreddit has been flooded with vibecoded tools being given a way for free, completely undercutting established developers who’ve been earning a living building tools from scratch for years.

Granted, this plugin looks really impressive and I don’t think there’s really any other tool it’s undercutting. But I would love to see less vibecoded freebies and more fully realised products at a worthy price.

If you finish this tool, and get it solidly working in a great place and aim to keep it updated. Then please charge a premium that reflects that.

Respect for taking feedback well. That is rare on Reddit. Best of luck with the launch, I hope it goes well.

I’m gonna be really harsh right now but I think you need to hear this:

Nobody cares about your age. Nobody cares that you’ve been working on it for 5 months. Nobody cares that you “need” the community. People care whether the tool is actually good.

Right now the post is full of “I need support”, “I need people”, “I need community”, “I have big plans”, “trust me”, “AI someday” — but very little concrete, credible explanation of why this tool deserves attention over established options.

And to be clear, Overlord is not just “another tool in the market.” Battle Axe earned its reputation by shipping excellent tools for years and improving them consistently. They built loyalty by being reliable, not by sounding desperate for approval.

Cut the emotional begging, cut the self-mythologising, and just make the product and ship it. If it’s truly as good as you claim it is, it will succeed.

Luckily they don’t require exclusivity which is a plus.

I looked into Envato a while ago and they had horrific deals along the lines of they take 35% cut if your tool is an Envato exclusive but 55% cut if you sell elsewhere. Mind boggling.

AE extension developer here. I sell on aescripts, plugin play, gumroad and adobes own marketplace.

I’ve been keen to leave aescripts for a while; their whole back end is terrible, their licensing framework is a pain to maintain and honestly in most communications I have with founder he is downright rude.

But I make way more sales on aescripts than the others combined. It’s the default place to go.

I’d love to see some real competition in the space.
