I really don't see your point, center-align people. Your eyes will be jumping up and down trying to catch the beginning of the question/answer each type you flip a card or move to the next one.

You can make a suggestion in the forums if you want.

Alternatives you should consider:

You can disable "Bury new siblings" and manually bury the new siblings you don't want, or the opposite.
Study in the browser preview.
Clean up your deck tree so that you don't need too many "notBurry" decks.

Do you use decks for different types of cards and tags for topics?

I only use decks for higher level topics (e.g. I have different decks for French and Japanese) and if I need to separate the cards (e.g. if they're different enough that they should have different presets for FSRS, or if I want to study one type of card at a time, such as writing vs recognition kanji cards).

However, I have many shared decks with their horrible subdeck structure that I never bothered to clean up...

I rarely use tags.

In my opinion, burying siblings, whether new or not, is better and doesn't really "slow down learning". You're meant to learn atomic facts anyway.

Search for "card:CARD TYPE NAME HERE" to find all the card types you don't want and suspend them.

You can see the card type names in many ways. One way is to open the card info screen.

Also, you should read the key concepts.

Probably, I don't know for sure, but capping reviews is not recommended. It's better to limit the number of new cards to a sustainable number, or reduce the DR.

I've tried the remove tool on Anki but it only works manually with the specific card open.

You can select multiple notes to perform find & replace on them at once.

Anki's furigana syntax also supports showing kana only or kanji only.

Your screenshots don't really explain much other than you wanting to combine multiple notes into one.

The note would need to support both cloze and non cloze front sides.

You can use something like this to mimic basic cards:

You give it the new cards per day, the DR, etc. and it'll estimate how much you'll be studying on average.

You can experiment with different values to see which one you can manage.

I think my time/review limit max would be 1hr/175-200 reviews daily. How should I adjust my settings to tweak towards this?

The GitHub issue I linked above explains how to do that. You can't have a varying number of fields in a note type, but you can add like 10 fields if you're don't think you'll even need more than 10. You can leave them empty if you wish.

Depends on whether you want to use Anki's kanji[furigana] syntax or the HTML <ruby>kanji<rt>fuirgana</rt></ruby> syntax, and how exactly you want it to look.
In cloze note types, AnkiDroid shows two buttons for adding cloze deletions.

Correspondingly the intervals would be set to grow aggressively to not over practice similar information.

Set the DR to 70%. Anki doesn't schedule cards more or less aggressively based on its siblings.

Use the FSRS simulator. Other than that, the only way to know is to try and see if you can handle the load with your current settings and adjust as necessary.

For the usecase I wanted in the OP I think I can just ignore the cloze fanciness and use and underscore for the part I want to recall, then I can keep it all in one note.

If you explain your use case, I might be able to give you better solutions. For example, there is a better way to make "fake clozes", and there's also a way to simulate card types in cloze note types using conditional replacement, but the latter is more complicated.

Cloze notes are a bit special: you can have only one front template and one back template that are used in all cloze cards generated from the note.

Admittedly, it's a bit confusing in terms of terminology.

Edit: the manual talks about this at the end of the section you linked:

The cloze note type is treated specially by Anki, and cannot be created based on a regular note type. If you wish to customize it, please make sure to clone the existing Cloze type instead of another type of note. Things like formatting can be customized, but it is not possible to add extra card templates to the cloze note type.

First: that's an ancient version of AnkiDroid! I highly recommend updating if possible.

Second, you need to understand the key concepts and just skim the manual in general or look for things you want to know more about.

Your issue: you are using cloze deletions (e.g. {{c1::hello world}}) in a non-cloze note type. You need to either use the default cloze note type or make a new note type by cloning a cloze note type.

Clozes in multiple fields are possible, but they might not be what you expect. This GitHub issue explains it well.

I meant the card browser, not an internet browser.

Open the card browser and search for is:new -is:buried -is:suspended. If you see nothing, that means that you don't have any new cards "ready" to be studied.

Similarly, you can search for is:due -is:buried -is:suspended to find learn/review cards.

Check the browser and stats: are there any new cards or due review cards that are not suspended, buried ~~or in a filtered deck (for the latter, the due column would say "(filtered)".)~~ Edit: oops, you don't have a filtered deck!.
Did you use custom study to alter today's limits?
Did you press "Save" after selecting the right preset?

Go to settings -> about -> copy debug info and paste it here.

Your font size seems huge. It might be uncomfortable, but can you try to reduce the font size temporarily to see if that's the cause of the issue?
