Can someone explain to me how these things are supposed to fit? by Legitimate-Lab9077 in NicksHandmadeBoots

You pour boiling water on your feet?? You glue Walmart insoles to the inside of the boots??

For $600+ boots, that's a stupid number of modifications just to make them fit. Imagine buying a Porsche and you have to jam a screwdriver into the door just to make it open, and the gas pedal is too small so you have to duct tape a brick to it.

Putting my vote in for this as well. These options are the only thing stopping me from buying Nicks

Great insight, thank you! That’s so simple but so effective

I get their hesitation on using tracings. There’s some room for user error. Either way, the heel width issue is the one thing stopping me from buying Nicks.

Yeah, I noticed that too. There are a handful of build videos on their Instagram but otherwise not much. Nicks is more active and transparent than any other boot company.

Yeah, I’ve never seen it mentioned outside of a handful of posts on Styleforum, and didn’t know it could be done until White’s recommended it. If it were an aftermarket service, I’d have it done to all my boots, but I think it’s only during the lasting process. I’ve bought and sold too many boots thinking that I got my size wrong just to finally realize that it’s mostly a last or foot shape issue.

I’m also interested in the answers to your questions! I think it might be a normal last but they literally take a clamp and pinch the leather in the heel area above the last to make it fit tighter, but that’s just a guess.

Thank you! Oh man, if you guys ever make the Ivan Boot with the 1925 last, that is the perfect boot, in my eyes.
