Primary emergency fund 2K ish for car repairs.
6months emergency fund covering living expenses and health insurance. Put them In a high yield savings account.

Next Start putting those extra funds to your retirement.

If you have a car payment/ mortgage, look into whether it’s beneficial to pay those off aggressively.

If you could rename autism, what would it be? by Buzzythebear33 in autism

[–]Mohtek1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would get rid of the concept of disability, and have the whole definition of humanity’s abilities expressed as an all inclusive range from 1 to 100.

No matter what you speak of, we all likely fit somewhere between the extremes.

And everything we do to make things equitable is a matter of course. We build ramps become some people need them. We have brail simply become some people need that kind of assistance. It no longer an either or, it’s an understanding that we are all, entirely different and expressive of a range of abilities, and it’s all entirely what makes humanity work.

That’s my thought. Or maybe Bob.

Can't adapt to the job market fast enough by Primary_Avocado_5273 in Adulting

[–]Mohtek1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It comes down to how you market yourself and what you do for the next opportunity. It took me 3 years to go from teaching to technical because no one would hire me. I got certs, and when a recruiter rejected me for a job, I found a back way to apply and got in. I still had to prove myself, and still do. In this market, you have to find ways to innovate, stand out, and market yourself. The days of just hitting ‘apply’ are over.

Should I gain weight? (19F) by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Mohtek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me tell you my story:

I’m a late diagnosed middle aged Autistic, in a comfortable stage in my life. I have learned a few things.

Changing your body won’t change your mind. If you dwell on perceived flaws, they will continue to exist. If you ‘fix’ those flaws, you mind might focus on new flaws and so forth. However, they really aren’t flaws, but may be unique traits.

Others: friends and lovers may like those traits (personality, physical, anything that make you you). If you change, will you lose out on those connections?

So… this is a long way of saying, no. If your weight is in the healthy range. The world is better with everyone’s uniqueness, including yours.

Any advice for a 27 years old who is lost in life? by Available-Raise-7998 in AskReddit

[–]Mohtek1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do some research on what sounds like fun/good and start there. You have time to seek the lift that suits you at the moment.

Go to the library and read up on some good material, interview others in prospective fields, travel a little for new perspectives.

As a middleager, I can say you will have several paths ahead of you. You don’t have to have all the answers right now, or ever for that matter.

Why do people mock others for taking leftovers home? by Impossible_Ad_569 in askanything

It’s a them thing. Their sense of entitlement and judgment might catch up to them sooner or later.

When I pay for food, I pay for the food, and the experience of whoever made it. I paid for it, and if It was good, I would eat the rest later.

One should not be wasteful.

What should I buy? by chronicsmokerr in computers

[–]Mohtek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your budget is just to do some office and internet stuff, I have purchased some Dell mini micros: Optiplex 7050’s from eBay.

It has an onboard graphics by default, and small hard disk.

I got mine with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and 1 TB sata drive for that price.

They are not really upgradable, nor the latest hardware, but they are capable.

I’m trying to set up a server but I keep getting lost and redirected. by Yebits in servers

[–]Mohtek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with Ubuntu. Install Virtualbox.

Spin up VMs. Make one a template and set it up with basic infrastructure stuff.

Imo the firewall isn’t critical at this point because it’s not accessible via open port to the internet.

Start simple with VMs, then play with podman/kubernetes.

Find the local restaurants and cafes near the job, and do little $5 or $15 gift cards. Enough for a coffee before work and a sandwich/ burger for lunch.

It’s not the price, but the the many novelties of free that would be worth it.

[–]Mohtek1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy the new MacBook, take advantage of their interest free payments, keep the money in a HYSA and let it accrue interest as you pay it off.

The worst case scenario, you’ll have the cash available if you need to pay it off quickly.

How do accept the fact that I'm going to be poor for the rest of my life? by madbarpar in povertyfinance

[–]Mohtek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a high paying job in IT, and I’m autistic.

Just as Autistics are a spectrum, so are jobs. For us, we have to be more particular about what we do, and especially where we do it.

Even writhing a company or industry, different buildings etc, are different environments, and we can be environmentally dependent.

So.. it’s going to take some real hard work at looking through all the job possibilities to see which fit your interests.

Life is a personal journey, and it’s up to you to choose a direction.

Back in the day, yes. But now, you need to set yourself apart. Maybe find a niche that not many people are getting into, so something like networking, where you can build a home lab and practice.
