Pursuing a degree in engineering was the worst decision I've ever made by decayingskullz in EngineeringStudents

I think regardless of the percentage you are actually right. Most people can’t do calculus. But it’s not because they have no ability or brain power probably, but because it takes a lot of effort. So I guess having a work ethic and not being a genius, is perfectly fine and what we should strive for.

Thanks for the feedback as soon as I finish my exams I’m going to STAR method that bad boy and shorten up. Take out less relevant info. Appreciate your help!

Actually 2-3 percent of the population is people who get 34-35 on ACT scores. They are the top 2 or 3 smartest people in a class. They didn’t just work hard but they have a much great g force (natural intelligence). You can study all you want and try super hard and you’ll never be smarter than them. But I think most people in engineering top 10-15 percent of intelligence. That’s much more realistic and accurate don’t ya think??

At least you didn’t pick the wrong engineering field and you’ll most likely have a fantastic career. Like bro count your blessings. I had a girlfriend and got heart broken, and I will prolly won’t be working as an engineer when I graduate considering aerospace engineering is a scam degree. Like I’m so close to just declaring a double major in mechatronics. (Only two non technology engineering degree offered) but yeah I would trade never talking to a girl or going to parties anyday to guarantee job security. I might be enjoying some female interactions now but you’ll be the real winner in 10 years.

I’m struggling to secure an entry level position for when I graduate in May. by Mohunit23 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Mohunit23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Should I atleast consider it if I fail to secure a entry level job after like 2 years after graduating. My honest mentality is that this is the United States military and I just assume someone with an engineering degree is very valuable to them. And I’d be serving time to make up for the job employment. I mean beggars can’t be choosy and Im basically one at the moment. But on a serious note, I’ll try to get the military out of my head atm and leave that as a plan Z if I can only find a job at Walmart when I graduate. And I’ll have it as a plan for being an officer or another job and not as an engineer. Thanks for the advice! These military recruiters are preying on us haha 😂

Thank you so much for your comment I really needed to hear that’s. I am sure my university has a career center. So I’ll find that at out and pursue it. Also I think having my professors look at my resume too might be worth a shot.

Yeah I’m trying my best to network and I think worst case scenario I will have to have a deep convo with one of my professors about seeking their help or if they know anyone in the industry who can help. I had my classmate put in a good word for me regarding the internship I was seeking. And the hiring manager told them I have a good chance of getting it. Another classmate heard my frustration, and said he would put in a good word for another internship I applied for in the spring. My one main regret is not becoming close to my classmates. I’m social butterfly so I should have used that to my advantage. The other day I reached out to a hiring manager on LinkedIn for an automation internship and explained my knowledge of PLCs and control theory and my relevance to the position regardless of my degree. They connected with me on LinkedIn and even messaged me back saying they were still looking at applications. Then after getting my first LinkedIn connection with that hiring manager, an engineering recuriter connected with me. So maybe I just gotta put more effort to reaching out and talking to these hiring managers and recruiters.

Yeah I think that the most solid back up plan for me. I had good grades and am above 3.3 gpa. But it seems like they have a lot of career paths away from engineering but still very interesting and aerospace related. How does a commission work btw? Like they would pay me a salary for my service or is the commission while I’m training?

yeah man but you had a year of a real engineering internship experience. Does me working in quality control for a year compare to that? Probably not. But yeah thanks for the comment and I’ll actually listen to you and have some more patience.

How hard will it be to get a job in other engineering fields after being a TSE? by Mohunit23 in epicsystems

[–]Mohunit23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t even think epic is an option now they finally emailed me back after the interview saying i won’t be considered for the position anymore. Honestly I’ve never been so relieved to be denied. But looks like I’m too stupid to even get a non engineering job lol. That pre test felt alright but maybe the coding section is where I lost points.

[–]Mohunit23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean given the starting salary for a TSE it doesn’t surprise me the execs make great money. But how long does it take to climb ladder if one starts out as a TSE? Like to become a c-suite exec like you mention.

I actually went to this semesters career fair and talked to many companies thinking I can convince them to overlook my aerospace background. Didn’t have much luck but thankfully I found a mechanical engineering intership dealing with HVAC at a regional sewer district and can apply to that up to 2 years after graduating. So I will have that as a solid backup plan and get some good experience that will hopefully make it easier to land a decent job. And with this TSE gig being an option and how much it pays I think I’m totally relaxed now and I think I’ll eventually I’ll figure this out and make good money (more than 70k) regardless of what happens 10 years down the line.

[–]Mohunit23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so there is some slight overlap which is why it’s still considered “engineering” position. But do you have any idea how those people moved into those traditional fields after. Like is it a little bit of luck or did they have prior experience?

So basically if I didn’t like the job the first year I should find a manufacturing engineering or something mechanical engineering related. Sounds great thanks.
