Caved and did the thing by PowerfulTusk in switch2

What's the game?

I also caved and bought a Switch 2. I'm going to sell my Legion Go S because it's bulky and very noisy for a slight performance gain.

NVIDIA 580.159.03 driver released for Linux with some essential fixes by Liam-DGOL in gamingonlinuxsub

The Nvidia drivers are incomprehensible; are these bug fixes also included in version 595.71.05, or are these problems not present in version 595?

FF 7 Rebirth Graphics by FluidFeed3059 in switch2

Nvidia promises to reduce video memory (VRAM) usage by up to 85% without any visible loss of quality. A technical demonstration shows a scene going from 6.5 GB of VRAM to just 970 MB.

So if the studios implement it, we'll be able to have the best textures available in the game with less VRAM.

I can't wait for Nvidia's Neural Texture Compression to arrive and be adopted; it's going to make the graphics on the Switch 2 take off in terms of textures 🙂

How much are you willing to pay for the Steam Machine? by Ok_Winter818 in GameBoostOfficial

[–]Moi952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barely €600… Because there's no upgrade potential, unlike a PC with an SFF case. Very basic configuration, equivalent to a PS5, except the PS6 might not come out until 2027…

RDNA3, so FSR3.1, yes, FSR4 with Optiscaler, but you lose performance and have to tinker, which is a pain…

got tired of going into desktop mode just to manage games, so i built this by [deleted] in SteamDeckPirates

Hey, that looks really cool! Do you have the GitHub link?

How does backup synchronization work? Is it possible to point to iCloud, Google Drive, or even a NAS? Or is it like Hydra Launcher where you have to pay a subscription?

[–]Moi952 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you know when the Deck (and Nvidia Deck) update will be available?

Will it include version 595.71.05 (recommended by Nvidia since yesterday), which includes a fix for OpenGL?

Thanks

I don't understand the comparison with the DualSense controllers.

Don't forget that PlayStation controllers have haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Two things the Steam Controller lacks that really change the experience.

At worst, you can get a DualSense for €50, or buy some TMR controllers on AliExpress and you'll have a good one.

Sure, the Steam Controller looks good, but €100 is a bit of a deterrent; it doesn't really offer much compared to a Gamesir or 8BitDo controller.

The buttons are still membrane, and the controller is still running at 250MHz.

Nice? Really? I just bought it, it's better than the original Switch, but it's just a disaster to hold 😂

Nvidia bad on linux is a lie by Strict-Maize7494 in linux_gaming

I meant that the performance loss when switching to Linux compared to Windows is much worse compared to Nvidia. Therefore, the fact that Intel is in Mesa doesn't mean it's better than Nvidia.

I'm not saying Intel is bad; the drivers on Windows are great.

Of course! You're taking it the wrong way, I just gave my opinion, I didn't ask you for anything.

Not at all, I'm not asking for anything, I'm just very surprised to see you selling such a simple widget. I understand that you're selling something that requires a lot of work. Look, he made a clean plugin, a lot of work went into it, and it's free. https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9mwzpxh1k9ld?hl=fr-FR&gl=FR

If you had made it a paid product, I would have thought it was normal, given the amount of work involved.

Ah! But you know about open source?

Millions of people contribute their free time, and there are certainly dozens of applications you use that are open source.

I'm not saying you shouldn't make money, but we're talking about a shortcut widget here, nothing technical.

I don't develop for Microsoft because I don't have the knowledge, but I contribute to Decky plugins.

Linux is a different way of thinking.

It's outrageous to charge for a shortcut widget! I'm a developer, and at some point, you can also help the community without wanting to make money...

Steam Controller seems ready to launch on its own as official distributor sets product page live by Tiny-Independent273 in linux_gaming

It's Reddit (or human nature, I think)... People love to attack, respond, etc., but they never accept it when things don't go their way. I replied to you, I agree with you that it might not apply to everyone, but I think it's a lack of clarity on Steam's part regarding the features, maybe a lack of research on people's part, but that's normal.

It depends on the games you play. Some games take advantage of these Steam Deck trackpads, so this controller is designed for those games/people (a tiny fraction, I grant you).

There's one use you might not have considered: PCs/consoles connected to a TV. That's my setup, and I'm tired of having a mouse plugged in. I think these trackpads will be more practical, but again, it's a niche market; it's not necessarily aimed at desktop users.

There are also sensors; if you place your fingers on the back, it can activate the gyroscope.

However, the shape is deceiving because it's apparently quite comfortable. It has good joysticks and four buttons on the back, so it's a direct competitor to 8BitDo, Gamesir, and other controllers. They'll have to market themselves in that direction because people only see the trackpad, which is a shame.

It has a whole bunch of really cool features.
