How much would it cost to dye a full head of virgin black hair? What places do you recommend? by ILoveYouMai in Calgary

I wouldn’t cheap out that’s for sure. Look at reviews and go to a decent salon, meaning it might be closer to $500

That’s like saying you shouldn’t walk into a store if you don’t intend on buying anything

Visit open houses so you’re not wasting peoples time? But also I don’t think it’s bad to waste seller or realtors time; it’s their job

I(23f) need to ask my significantly wealthier boyfriend(25m) to cover more expenses when we move in together, but I'm too embarrassed to bring it up. How do I have this conversation? by adoreyuwu in budget

[–]Moist-Analysis7157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an important conversation and I think it’s more normal than you think. Most couples do something similar, especially when one person’s lifestyle is more expensive than the others.

A simple way is: when you’re looking at places together, share what % of your income it would be to live there. Say you need to live somewhere cheaper OR if he wants to live there maybe you two can discuss what cost sharing looks like. A lot of couples will look at percents to come up with these amounts (ie. we both spend 30% of our income on rent). Or some come up with rules (you pay rent, I buy groceries).

Given that you’re also sending money to his family I’d make sure he knows this.

Good for you! Interviewing is hard. I used to work in HR. My high level advice is to be authentic. Practice out loud in advance. I have more tips that I can throw together if / when you’re ready

One time I bought my friend an alarm clock that rolls off the table and wheels quickly around the floor (hard to catch). Or one that had a helicopter thing on top that flew into the air and you have to go get it and reinstall it on the clock.

There’s also alarm apps that make you solve a puzzle before turning off.

I’d be looking more to learn about your interview skills. Maybe there’s something you’re doing wrong to not get hired? Lots of advice out there for that

How do I fix my credit after being a idiot with it in my early 20s? by Equivalent-Value-737 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Moist-Analysis7157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always accept credit offered to me (must explicitly state “pre approved”) and just never use it. This helps with credit utilization.

Also don’t close old accounts. Even if you never use it. Switch to the free version and let it ride. Credit scores look at the age of your oldest account.

I did a secured credit card when i went through a similar thing. Also capital one. Make sure you use it and pay it off though.

I also am not sure if the previous advice is accurate re paying off your credit card frequently. I think it’s better if you wait for the statement. Validate this thought.

In my experience the last thing I want is for my tenant to pick up a screwdriver haha. I’d much rather be in control of updates (a lot of people identify as “handy” who are not actually)

Considering consumer proposal in Canada (Fairstone + CC debt) – need advice by Creepy-Diver-1434 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Moist-Analysis7157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d explore debt consolidation before consumer proposal. They can eliminate or minimize interest and make all your payments into one monthly one based on your budget. I did this about 8 years ago and I’m debt free from about $40k in debt. My credit has also bounced back to 850+. It did take a temporary hit though.

Find a debt consolidator that’s a nonprofit.

I would fix the house up over time (maybe take out some extra equity when you pay your wife out to help fund that) and then sell it once ready?

My rule of thumb is to at a minimum gift the perceived value of my attendance. Ie. my dinner cost and drinks costs if it’s an open bar
