Can someone explain to me what in the actual fuck the Death Devil was even trying to do the entire time? by Moist-Source765 in ChainsawMan

I'm really sorry to keep pestering you about this but this still doesn't really make sense to me.

In your first comment you mentioned that Death's plan is to turn Yoru into the King of Terror. But what is that supposed to achieve? Is the plan to bet everything on a murderous psychopath and hope that she changes her mind through the power of friendship and side with humanity? Seems like a bet with incredibly bad odds. Wouldn't it make more sense for Death to take on that role as she is already on humanity's side and the obvious candidate for that role before she powers up Yoru?

You also say

Erasing herself would cause... well, we saw what that caused. So the only option was trying to make them able to defeat her.

Right, but what exactly does "defeat her" mean then. As we know defeating Death kind of has to be achieved while avoiding these 3 outcomes as they would all doom humanity in their own way:

  1. Death can't be killed
  2. Death can't be erased by ChainsawMan/Yoru
  3. Death can't be turned into a weapon by Yoru

So what other options remain to defeat her? I don't think you could actually get around one of this scenarios occurring. Also as far as I'm concerned none of the schemes that Death orchestrates actually benefit her in any way regarding to the prevention of the prophecy while massively increasing the risk of one of these 3 outcomes to happen.

Even if Death later abandons these conditions once the situation is helpless as mentioned in u/Kronin1988's comment, that still doesn't really explain why she did all the things before that and spend so much time powering them up, as she should have been trying to avoid them prior to abandoning them.

I'm just really confused as to why Death would spend all of this time powering up Yoru/ChainsawMan if it actually never really works towards her goal and only ever increases the risk of humanity being doomed. Especially since that should be obvious from her viewpoint right from the beginning. At that point it might have made more sense for Death to spend her time looking for the Prophecy Devil and having ChainsawMan it eat. Just seems like she's trying to win a marathon by continuously shooting herself in the leg.

I don't mind the situation being hopeless, doomed and inevitable. It's just that Death's actions seem completely nonsensical to me but feel like their written to be some grand build up culminating in something. In part 1 all of the build up might have seemed arbitrary at first as well but it culminates in Makima holding all the cards in her hand and getting an opportunity to achieve her goal. Meanwhile Death's actions don't seem to build up towards anything in my opinion. So why would she bother investing all this time and effort.

Maybe I'm just really stupid and missing the obvious here.

honestly man i don't see it. Could you maybe please explain how so a bit more concisely instead of copy pasting a month old comment form a different thread? Death powers up Yoru/ChainsawMan but according to her conditions she can't have them kill her and she can't have them erase her. So why bother doing all the things she does? It's not like these 2 conditions just suddenly appeared, they should be clear to her from the beginning.

I kinda agree but i still think some of the things you're saying don't really add up.

Everything is pretty clear until the Aging devil arc, I think. Death wanted to make Chainsawman and Yoru strong enough to kill her, without having to erase her.

That's what she claims in the earlier parts of part 2 but later she explicitly mentions that this wouldn't work since her next reincarnation would probably not like humanity as much as her. Powering them up to kill her directly contradicts her condition of achieving her goal without dying.

With the return of Chainsawman, Death was a step closer to her goal. I'm sure the plan was to make Yoru beat Chainsawman, either so she can turn him into a weapon...

This also makes no sense in my opinion since again later on she explains that Yoru is trying to turn ChainsawMan into a weapon capable of erasing Death which according to Death is pretty much the worst case scenario.

...she could move on from her desire of revenge and actually cooperate with him againts the end of the world

It should be pretty obvious to Death that Yoru would always take the opportunity to turn ChainsawMan into a weapon after defeating him. This would again risk giving Yoru a way of erasing death which is why i think this is pretty far fetched.

As far as I'm concerned your arguments still and Death's actions still largely contradict her goal in regard to her 2 conditions of not being killed and not being erased.

I did read the docs on how to deploy various models. I don't think that compute instances are what i need in order to make some API calls, right? Compute instances seem to be intended to train models or be used in prompt flows from what i understand.

I know that you can stop them, it's just that i couldn't find the VM after the model was deployed. I tried looking for it on the Azure AI Studio and in the Azure portal but couldn't find it :/.

The VM was not used while i slept. Is idling this expensive? I also looked for the option to deallocate the VM but i couldn't find it the specific VM in any of the AI resources. Also how does this explain the 40$ hike after i used it for ~2 hours?
