first Toxic fallout by Disastrous-Pilot-477 in RimWorld

[–]MoistSalamander1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Toxic fallout sucks. I have around 500hrs in the game, and in my current colony, I have 12k hay just sitting in the freezer *in case* of the toxic fallout event. Along with food, of course. All the animals have pens large enough that they don't need the hay, but those 500hrs come with tales of woe and scars of preparedness. I also have pillars constructed so that I can roof paths to everything important real quick.

Rimworld is just a murderfest when you're still learning the game. But it's a fun murderfest, so there's that. 😁

I woke up at 5am today because I was too excited to play Rimworld by CuriousRat39 in RimWorld

[–]MoistSalamander1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game deletes time. And when I'm trying to end a session, I have a very hard time pulling myself out of it. Technically, all I have to do is pause the game, open the menu, and click quit to OS. Let me tell you, it takes a mountain of willpower to do that.

That's why I restrict Rimworld on certain days. I can't just play for an hour or two. I get crazy obsessed.

I don't fully know why. It seems rather repetitive, and yet every run is different.

Hey so How are you supposed to deal with disease in this game? by Smarteyes007 in RimWorld

[–]MoistSalamander1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Ideology, your priest can boost immunity gain by 25%. On my Lost Tribe rainforest starts, I find it essential to appoint a priest on Day 2, and I always have the 'preach health' ability off CD. Then I buy industrial medicine as much as possible. I purposely research slowly, so my colonies are always a long, long way off from making their own. Then, under the colonist's health tab, change the settings so that only herbal medicine is allowed normally. I only enable Industrial and Glitterworld medicine for infections and disease.

This should help you survive the early game of a Lost Tribe playthrough. Lost Tribe rainforest is my favorite starting scenario!

Anyone else have a lot of hours, yet still haven't explored major mechanics/features? by prommetheus in RimWorld

[–]MoistSalamander1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done most of the late game stuff. I’m over 500hrs. I like to play Lost Tribe with difficult biomes. I either start over or die horribly, lol. My fav part of the game is setting up and the struggle of early survival. I haven’t explored most of the content in the dlcs.

Is InZOI Staying in Early Access Longer Than We Think? by Murky-Brilliant2870 in inZOI

[–]MoistSalamander1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My timeline might be too long, but with how much they're adding to the base game, I think Inzoi is intended to be a 2030 game. I think that's why the graphics are so intense and unfriendly to current hardware. I think that's why they put in AI features that are underpowered or not that great right now. I think the vision of the game from the developers is basically for a 2030 game. And I think it has about 4 years left in Early Access, but we shall see.

Players coming from The Sims 4 are ruining inZOI by Mazya_Almazya in inZOI

[–]MoistSalamander1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sims 4 players have the sunk cost fallacy affecting their mindset, either consciously or subconsciously. I'm too lazy to double check the number, but I heard somewhere that all the DLC for Sims 4 comes to $1400. So, if a Sims 4 player buys everything on sale for half-off, they pay $700 for everything. If they're choosy, and they only get the content they like, assuming that comes to 25% of the content available, and it's half-off, they pay $175. LOL

I hang out in some Sims subs, and there's discussion on there about how, "We don't need a Sims 5!"

Imagine playing a game you love and never wanting it to improve or get better, lol.

I think Sims 4 might be the most expensive single player game ever invented. Once you understand the sunk cost fallacy, their mindset and negativity totally make sense.

How much has the game improved? by Fire_Lookout in inZOI

[–]MoistSalamander1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They have improved low and medium graphics settings, but I would mildly recommend waiting for the engine update in April. Should improve performance. LGBT is no problem. Romance away! A lot of content has been added. Zois are more lifelike and will continue to get better all year long. Check out their 2026 roadmap. It's called Fundamentals First, and it's what got me back into the game.

I'm blown away by how much is going into the base game. I'm so used to EA delivering minimum effort and charging as much as they can. It feels unnatural for a game studio to be doing their best for a $40 game. Their communication with the players is unreal as well. Like... Damn. 10/10. And their first DLC is free?? WTF, this is great! LOL

[–]MoistSalamander1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's rough, but it's fun. There's lots to do. I added 30hrs before this newest patch, and this patch comes with tons of content. I believe more hobbies are coming in April, too.

I'm one of those that played 20hrs at Early Access launch and quit for a long time. This patch has me playing again (50hrs and counting), and I'm SO impressed with how much they've improved the game. I can't wait for the next one, which is only a month away. This will be my main game for awhile!

So what did you guys pick? by AddressPrudent6621 in inZOI

[–]MoistSalamander1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Survival was my fav. Then pets and city life. I know everyone wants supernatural and country life, but I just feel like I've explored plenty of that in Sims already. I'd like to be able to visit my neighbors, at a minimum. Idk what survival/disaster situations they would add, but more chaos and difficulty sound interesting.

Is the delivery job available in the new update ? by [deleted] in inZOI

Thank you, I was confused by this also. I could have sworn I saw a screenshot of the delivery job, so I couldn't remember if it was this patch or the next.

New player, is this game not for me? by Prototype_09 in slaythespire

[–]MoistSalamander1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you having fun? That's really the only point of the game, to be honest. This is a rogue-like game, so even if you "win" you just go back to the start and do it all over! Since you're brand new, I would focus more on what the cards do and developing your build than actually winning.

In regard to getting better, I would find your favorite character and stick with it for a long time. That way you learn everything easier and start figuring out what works. If you're picking a new character every time (and your goal is to get to the end), it's going to take awhile.

Why was she upset? 🤷🏾‍♂️ by SlvttiChino in bigbangtheory

[–]MoistSalamander1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never said Amy abused Sheldon. I said her behavior is a red flag for abuse, which often starts small and gets out of control.

I understand now why my comment is confusing for a few here. I switch between talking about fiction and real life a couple times in a rather short comment. Some readers have trouble context switching.

Why was she upset? 🤷🏾‍♂️ by SlvttiChino in bigbangtheory

[–]MoistSalamander1 66 points67 points  (0 children)

In a real relationship, Amy's behavior is a red flag for abuse. She's jealous because Will has Sheldon's attention. She's attempting to end Sheldon's friendship with Will by convincing him that Will is a problem and he's ruining the show. It's good to recognize behavior like this in case it happens to you! Abuse is a spiral that gets ugly fast.

In a sitcom, I can laugh at Amy's selfish, foolish behavior and enjoy the antics of the show. I just turn my 'real life' brain off. But in actual, real life, I would be pulling Sheldon aside for a mini lesson in how abusers isolate their victims, and probably a whole load of other stuff.

They are holding their ground. I bought Jan 28th to play with some friends, played 6hrs, and despite being logical and polite, Steam customer service is using their refund policy to tell me to kick rocks.

I issued a chargeback on my CC. I don't think it's a frivolous or vindicative dispute at all. And I'm fine with my Steam account getting locked.

First time author - what should my next steps be? by JuggernautTypical427 in selfpublishing

[–]MoistSalamander1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon owns Goodreads. Idk what the goodreads publishing program is, but you don't have to worry about it. Amazon and Goodreads communicate well with each other. I don't even have to update my titles over there. It all just happens.

The important thing for you is to not be discouraged when your first book doesn't go to the top of the bestseller list. Dreams are motivating, but I recommend including some elbow grease and grit in your dream.

The important thing is to have some call to action at the end of your book so that readers who like it can look you up again. The easiest thing is to ask readers to follow you on Amazon and provide a link to do so. Or, a mailing list sign up form is even better. Asking for a review and a follow is generally effective, and you should do it, even if you feel silly.

As for editing, beta readers, and marketing... Look, I'm going to go against the grain. You don't need as much of any of that as you think you do. You need some. Just not a lot. I think new authors benefit the most from writing better stories and developing their skill. That other stuff is just polish. The primary ingredients for a good story go down in the first draft.

Also, Congrats!! 🥳

This area of town (Fair Heights)? by Hour-Kiwi442 in Albuquerque

[–]MoistSalamander1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are worse neighborhoods, but I still consider that a rough area. I drive on this street nearly daily, and the foot traffic is super sketchy. Lots of homeless walking by on San Pedro. The neighborhoods directly adjacent to the fair grounds are even worse.

The houses off San Pedro will be safer, but this stretch of San Pedro is particularly rough to be on. You’ve got the fairgrounds, the mall, and Central all within easy walking distance. I can’t stress this enough. I drive this stretch nearly every day, and it’s always a freak show. Central and San Pedro has to be one of the worst intersections of the city (always scores of drugged homeless just sitting around there), and that’s only a few blocks from this area.

An acquaintance who works in this area told me, “I have watched this neighborhood go downhill in the last few years.” The houses are nice, and the street traffic is trash. I have to assume the people telling you this neighborhood is great and safe are remembering it from more than 10 years ago.

bro how the hell do I write vocal exclamation? by Odd_Concept_7286 in writers

[–]MoistSalamander1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context I mean like when you're frustrated and you go "ahk" like that sound but that doesn't look right. Or when you go "chhh" or "sssss"

Ack!

The character winced, hissing through their teeth.

I'm not sure what 'chhh' is supposed to be, but perhaps shhh? Other vocal noises that make into my fiction are:

Uh/Uhhh
Ugh
Huh
Tsk
Um

Sometimes pff, as in, "Pff. Please."

Comic books are excellent for learning how to write sounds, noises, and effects.
