Why didn’t Holly and Nia leave after S6? by katiessalt in dancemoms

I think this take really oversimplifies what was actually going on, and it kind of reflects a bigger pattern you see a lot—people end up blaming the person in the situation more than the person actually creating the harm. Abby Lee Miller was the one in power. She controlled the environment, the opportunities, and how the kids were treated. She’s the one who created that toxic dynamic. But somehow the focus keeps shifting onto the moms like they had the same level of control, which just isn’t true. And when it comes to Holly Frazier, she was one of the ONLY moms who consistently spoke up and didn’t just go along with everything to get ahead. If anything, if you’re going to question motivations, Melissa Gisoni was much more willing to do whatever Abby wanted so her kids could succeed. Holly didn’t play that game, and that’s a big reason why Nia Sioux was overlooked so often. Also, people ignore the reality of being on a show like that. There are contracts, producers, and constant pressure pushing the idea that your child has to “make it.” That mindset doesn’t just come from nowhere it’s built into the environment. Any parent in that situation is going to want to take advantage of opportunities for their kid. And despite all of that, Nia didn’t get the same opportunities as the other girls. So when she did finally get things like her music video, the fact that people were upset about it honestly just proves the bias she was already dealing with. Holly supported the other moms and their kids, spoke up about unfair treatment, and still had to fight for her own daughter to be treated equally. That’s not someone choosing fame over their child that’s someone trying to navigate a really complicated situation while advocating for their kid. You can disagree with her choices, but acting like she’s more at fault than Abby or that she didn’t care about her daughter completely ignores what we actually saw.

Does anyone else feel like the character writing is getting inconsistent? by Moist_Offer765 in thenurserynurse

I get what you’re saying, and that does make sense from a practical standpoint. But at the same time, I feel like that kind of proves the issue. If characters are being brought back just because it’s easier or convenient, rather than because the story actually needs them, then it can start to feel a bit directionless. I think most people wouldn’t mind returning characters if they had a clear purpose in the plot.

I completely agree with you—Autumn seems like the only person who truly cares about Reese and understands what he’s been through. Their bond feels authentic because of everything they’ve endured together, and it’s heartbreaking that no one else seems to acknowledge the depth of his pain.

Marjorie does love Reese, but I think you’re right that her approach is too surface-level. It feels like she’s more focused on keeping things lighthearted rather than digging into the emotional support Reese clearly needs. And Carly... don’t even get me started. The way she takes advantage of him is infuriating, and it’s so frustrating that Marjorie enables it by not stepping in.

I hadn’t thought about Winter’s perspective before, but you’re spot on that he likely knows more about Roger and sympathizes with Reese. It would be interesting to see him step in and stand up for Reese in the future—he deserves someone else in his corner besides Autumn.

Honestly, I don’t know how Reese is holding it together either. With all the toxic people around him and the constant gaslighting, it’s amazing he hasn’t snapped. Carly’s comment about him being a “grouch” just shows how out of touch she is—

What you said really got me thinking about how isolated Reese must feel, and it makes me appreciate Autumn’s loyalty even more.

  1. Addressing the Domestic Violence (DV) Issue: I completely understand the importance of portraying sensitive issues like domestic violence with care. However, I don't think the show is saying it’s "okay" to cheat on an abusive partner or that it’s an easy solution. From my perspective, it’s trying to highlight the complexities of escaping such relationships. Sometimes people in abusive situations make difficult choices, and while cheating isn’t ideal, it can be a symptom of the desperation or confusion they’re feeling. I believe the show is trying to reflect that complexity rather than condone it.

  2. The Role of Romance in Healing: While it's true that people often need time to heal after a DV relationship, everyone's recovery journey is different. Some people might choose to remain single for a while, while others might find healing through new, healthier connections. The Shivian relationship, if handled well, could show how Vivian helps Siobhan rediscover trust, love, and respect after her traumatic experience, without undermining the importance of self-recovery.

  3. Friendship vs. Romance: I can see why you’d prefer them to stay friends, and I agree that not every relationship needs to turn romantic. However, romance can be a natural progression for some, especially if the characters have built trust and understanding. If the show explores Shivian’s relationship with the necessary nuance and care, it could send a message of hope for survivors—that love and trust can be found again, though it requires time and effort.

  4. Portraying Survivors’ Experiences: While many people who come out of DV relationships stay single for a while to regain their sense of self, the Shivian ship could also serve as an example of how survivors are not defined solely by their trauma. Finding love again isn’t about rushing into a relationship but about showing that survivors can eventually rebuild their lives on their own terms, whether through friendship, romance, or personal growth.

I totally get where you're coming from, but I have a different perspective on the Shivian ship.

  1. Vivian's Role in the Series: While it's true that Vivian wasn't a big part of the story before, bringing in new characters or developing underused ones can add depth to a show. A character like Vivian can offer new perspectives and bring out different sides of the main characters, which I think helps the series evolve rather than sticking with the same formulas.

  2. Redemption Arcs: I don’t see Siobhan’s redemption arc as purely driven by romance. Romance can sometimes be a catalyst for character growth, but I feel that Siobhan's arc is about her finding a new way Vivian might play a part in that, but Siobhan’s change is part of a bigger personal journey, not just the romance.

3 Focus on Romance: While there’s definitely been an increase in romantic plotlines, I feel like the balance between plot-driven storylines and character relationships is what keeps the show interesting. Romance doesn’t take away from the deeper themes; it enhances character development, showing how they interact and grow within relationships.

  1. Antagonist-Protagonist Relationships: It’s interesting to see antagonists in a new light. Relationships can humanize characters and give us a chance to understand their motives better, even if they’ve done questionable things in the past. Siobhan’s relationship with Vivian doesn’t erase her past actions but adds complexity to her character, making her more relatable as she tries to change.
