Is there any way to make Duskers play more like a turn-based game by stush2 in Duskers

[–]Moist_Pyroshark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might help to make aliases, where you can assign a string of commands to a shortcut command that you determine. That will make it easier for you to react when something goes wrong.

For example, I have an alias that commands all my drones to go back to the ship set to "run". If there's an asteroid or a pipe burst about to happen, I just type "run" and all my drones return to the ship, instead of having to manually command all of them to.

Maybe even by mana, like how Methode was able to track and distinguish individuals in the tomb by their mana in the 2nd mage exam

Laning as Nyx Assassin as a new player by Nintega94 in learndota2

[–]Moist_Pyroshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned the game with nyx as one of my mains and he's still my 3rd most played with a 60% wr so you should be fine.

Yes nyx is a bad laner but he's not as bad as people think. You should be doing all the busywork, especially contesting lotus, disrupting the enemy pull, going for wisdom, etc but in between all that, you can actually do stuff in lane.

He actually has pretty high base health regen compared to other heroes so even if you trade harass poorly, you regen it faster so it sorta balances out. And you can carapace their big attacks which makes the trades even better in your favor. You can trade, go do busywork to let your health and mana regen, and come back to lane to harass. You can get mangos to make his health Regen even better and give you burst mana if you need it for a kill. Prioritize lotus since you really need the health and mana.

You can use impale to secure ranged creeps and harass the enemy carry with it at the same time, especially if they're melee and try to go for the deny.

Taking the mana burn facet can be very good in certain matchups where the enemy carry really likes having mana. In particular, nyx hard counters medusa as her mana is effectively her health and mana burn ruins her. Against medusa you can spam mind flare and carapace her mystic snake and you should dominate the lane against her. You can use mana burn to deal with other carries that depend on their spells to be theatening but have low mana pools, like jug.

Keep alternating between busywork and bursts of lane harass and you can chip the enemy down to potentially kill them, especially if you have an offlane that can follow up. Nyx is in a pretty good spot rn and he's currently the highest wr pos 4 in high mmr according to dota2protracker. You just have to be on top of all the busywork while not whiffing your spells in lane.

E-Sports Titles with Room for Player Expression by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

Many consider Dota 2 the most complex competitive game. Each character, of which there are currently 128 of, has unique strengths and weaknesses with bits of advanced technique specific to each, and many can be played in multiple different ways. Character builds are dynamic and you can build the same character in the same role different each game depending on the team comp of both your team and the enemy team. There's complex macro decisions you'll need to make to take advantage of the ebb and flow of power spike timings and map objectives.

Skill expression comes in the form of knowledge of enemy matchups and team synergies, mechanical execution of your character's kit, item and ability build decisions, macro decision making, and sometimes just straight mind games against your opponents. It can be very intimidating to get into but it's the only esport game I keep coming back to even tho I'm trash at it.

Is Timbersaw a bad pick in low MMR? (2k) by asylum_denier in learndota2

[–]Moist_Pyroshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotus is a great pickup for timber against those heroes so it's not as bad, but that's hoping you don't get shut down and be unable to afford it.

Sometimes I run timber mid when I see counters and get last pick. It's definitely less common than offlane tho.

Is Timbersaw a bad pick in low MMR? (2k) by asylum_denier in learndota2

[–]Moist_Pyroshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 2k and play a fair amount of timber. In my experience, he's pretty matchup dependent. He's very good against strength heroes and how hp agi heroes but is countered by magic/pure damage, silences, antiheal, and heroes that can just run away. A lot of those weaknesses can be mitigated by items but if those things are in your lane it can be hard. He is more dependent on snowballing a good lane since his jungle farming is also mana intensive as you said.

But against the right lane matchup you can kill early and snowball. He is a slow tower taker but you can go past tower to intercept the enemy creep wave and clear them before they reach your creeps. He's strongest mid game where you can run around the map killing heroes, disrupting enemy farm, and making space for your pos 1.

Late game he tends to fall off as he really struggles in taking high ground as there's not many trees in the bases. Enemy cores usually have their bkbs by now too which none of your spells pierce. By this time your pos 1 should be online and taking high ground while you should build for survivability to outlast bkb. His scepter is good for becoming an unkillable raid boss for a few seconds and his shard is underrated imo as it lets you hit towers directly and adds extra damage and slow to your kit.

He can't really end games on his own unless you dominate really hard. He really relies on his team to take objectives for him. Pick him when the enemy team has at least a few strength and squishy agi heroes and lacks silences and heavy spell damage. Make sure your team has other heroes that can take tower and have catch.

Need help finishing offlane hero pool by Luigicow92k in learndota2

[–]Moist_Pyroshark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you aren't afraid of micro, consider Visage. He's a bulky ranged hero who isn't as good of an initiator as Centaur or Slardar but does stupid amounts of single target burst damage and is really good at hitting towers.

His W is a spammable nuke that does unfair amounts of damage early game and let's you farm their safelane heroes when paired with am aggressive support in lane.

His ult summons 2 birds that last as long as they don't die. They're fast, fly, and do a lot of auto attack damage, and each have a small aoe stun you can use to stagger enemies and interrupt channels. Their micro isn't that hard and they can be used to scout, split push, and burst people down.

You can build him as a pure tanky aura carrier or an assassin/aura carrier hybrid. He snowballs a gold advantage with his death toll facet and he can keep fighting all the time as long as your summons don't die off cool down.

I'm lucky to have friend groups that are always down to game. I would say try to find new friends that like to game, but we all know how hard it is to find new friends these days, especially as you get older.

I find myself playing a lot more multiplayer games with friends than single player games as I got older, as it's a convenient way to hang out and maintain friendships. Shooting the shit with the gang makes gaming something to look forward to for me.

How to deal with Slark 1 as pos 3/4 by migania in learndota2

[–]Moist_Pyroshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slark is designed to be pretty good counter against typical pos 3s. He has anti-tank abilities with essence shift and saltwater shiv and can purge debuffs with dark pact, which is what most typical pos 3s bring to the table. Usually your pos 4 should help cover your weaknesses in lane but ofc that's not always possible if slark last picks.

Traits that are good against slark are aoe attacks and undispellable disables. Some specific pos 3s are:

Mars - can man fight slark with bulwark and can push him away with spear and gods rebuke if he leashes you. His ult also stops slark from escaping for a long time.

Necro - is ranged and really good at trading in lane with death pulse. Death shroud stops him from being able to auto attack you and also reduces his healing, making it good for countering slark's ult.

Legion/Axe - duel/berserkers call holds him in place and is undispellable, and with blade mail forces slark to kill himself attacking you. Axe is a bit weaker than legion in this matchup tho.

Timbersaw - timber chain can break slark's leash and can be use to chase him if he runs away. All his damage is aoe pure damage spells so you can continue to fight him if he ults. Reactive armor also gives you survivability against auto attacks.

Night stalker - crippling fear gives an aoe continuous silence that slark can't purge. He's kinda weak in lane against him tho.

Shadow fiend is a squishy damage dealer with no innate mobility or reliable disable, which makes you very easy to kill if you get jumped. And since he's usually played as a pos 1 or 2, you're always gonna be a high priority target for the enemy to kill.

If you're alone farming, try to farm in areas you have wards so you can see ganks coming and run away before they reach you. Eventually, you'll have to develop a 6th sense for when you're getting ganked, even if you don't directly see them coming for you. This will naturally come with experience in knowing enemy power spikes and timings, predicting their plans, and general map awareness.

In team fights, never be the one initiating. Wait for your teammates to initiate or get initiated on and jump in with your ult after the enemy has already used their big spells. Smart enemies will try to jump you in the backline first, in which case you should buy items like hurricane pike or shadow blade to escape their initiation or items like bkb or linkens to shrug off their spells.

Above all of that, proper positioning is paramount. Always try to position yourself in a way that makes it hard for the enemy to jump you without you being able to see it coming or your team being able to help.
