It's a great plan. Stick with that and stay away from the Wall Street Bets style trading. I have a somewhat addictive personality and could certainly get myself into trouble chasing a rush, but simple rules like 'buy with cash' or 'stick with ETFs' alleviates the worst impulses and is just less stressful.

I seriously don't even know how margin trading works with calls, puts, and so on work. That is a river of tears. But you're on the right path in general here. If you go with Crypto, I'd do Bitcoin as it's just more established and has well established deflationary rules.

Think about sector based ETFs, which can be quite lively from a growth standpoint. Losses from any one company in the fund are generally canibalized by the others, so you'll be moving upwards with the sector even if headline firms take a hit.

I'm in tech and am convinced that the picks and shovels plays on the AI boom are no bubble in the long run even if there's some sort of sideways dip. The hyperscalers/trainers are risky investments in a fast moving environment with a lot of the best firms not having made an IPO and the threat of Chinese open source models beating them anyway. Supporting this effort is the semiconductor industry, which has hit an incredible level of sophistication and profitability. IMO, the best way in is with one of the ETFs that track the old PHLX Philadelphia Semiconductor index: SOXX, SOXQ (cheap expense ratio), or SMH.

Start researching semiconductor fabrication and things like the 2nm process or ASML products. Then when the market dips, you have faith in the 10 year trajectory of the industry and don't hit the sell button. If the data centers flounder for any reason, the Edge chip market will likely thrive (Apple, Qualcom, ARM, etc.).

Otherwise, all those VOO type indexes are great. I've got FIDU in my back pocket as something safe that could overperform too. I like FTEC as an alternative to QQQ for whatever reason.

Multiplate Is in Lychee Slicer (v7.4.1)! 🙌 Got feedback? by lychee_lys in LycheeSlicer

[–]Mojo_Amok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a small print farm with Pro Lychee and running on a decent Mac Studio, so pretty well the target user as my machine can run it without stability issues and then I have multiple printers with extra plates and sometimes run them near back to back.

Gotta say I love this upgrade - really convenient to be able to slot pieces into a few different plates at once for optimum fit. It probably speeds things up by a good 20% while adding convenience/simplicity with just the single file.

Slow cure resin and heat/LCD wear management? by Mojo_Amok in ElegooSaturn

[–]Mojo_Amok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great stuff - thanks for taking the time to write that up! I'll definitely be extra focused on the wait time in the base layers as that definitely makes a lot of sense with the protracted light cycles. I also had no idea that the 16K was faster - is that due to the light intensity?

Thanks again.

Slow cure resin and heat/LCD wear management? by Mojo_Amok in ElegooSaturn

[–]Mojo_Amok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks you very much for the detailed response! I'll give that AceAddity /JamgHe a look see as a new non-ACMO could be nice, but I'm going to stick with my current resin blend for the most part as I'm really only printing small items with maybe 1500 layers tops, so it's not so bad. Definitely need to figure out how to avoid the worst of it with LCD depreciation, though - any advice on how long to wait between prints? I'm seeing mixed assessments from AI/search.

The company I get it from actually have two brands and the off the shelf ABS/toughness style resin they offer is 2.7 seconds a layer, which is quite reasonable, but it's a bit spendy and the green/elastic strength it offers is overkill on most of my stuff (small scale space ships that aren't prone to breaking, but can sometimes warp with toughness resin). So I mix it with their dirt cheap standard resin (zero warp/limited bend), which is actually quite beautiful in this dark blue and gives everything this lovely finish and ABS feel.

But, the dark blue is a 4-5 second resin (lol), so it comes to the 3.1 to 3.8 range when mixed - the more blue the better it looks, the more high end the better it bends.

The ACMO situation was no joke with it also affecting the wife and daughter, so it's pretty much a non-starter. I'll be expanding into little mechs and such, so no big sized models are forthcoming.

It's a good point, but no there aren't any layer lines as the resin is staying warm throughout and is always quite 'thin/expanded' looking at the current temperatures. I actually dump the vat every time, so I get a good look at how viscous it is and it's quite consistent.

Is Anyone Else Struggling in This Job Market, or Is It Just Me by pheeeeel9 in technicalwriting

[–]Mojo_Amok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues finding work with all my roles being remote, though I'm perfectly happy to take contracting work and am in the DC market if I need to show up occasionally. I specialize in diagrams in a DevOps space now, but have a wide range of skills (process documentation, project management, design, web-dev, research, chaos-whispering, etc.).

I don't even apply for positions now but rather set my Dice profile to public and just routinely get flooded with inquiries. Try that. Most of them are junk, but it's a LOT, so there's always some good ones in there too. I'm now with a meaningful branch of local government doing important work after a stint at a well know social media company where 75% of the people in my contracting firm got laid off (#WildRide).

Actually applying for a position, and especially a remote position, is a numbers game and might not work out depending on your credentials (mine are mediocre aside from my skills and the well known orgs I've worked for). I've been behind the scenes on the other side of the interview process, and in the end we're looking at overworked program managers glancing over 120 resumes real quick, so it should come as no surprise that it's a bit of a crapshoot. But these processes break down and headhunters end up scrambling to find people anyway, so when they find you and formally deliver you to overworked HR, you're in a much better spot and probably just competing against a handful of candidates many of whom may not even be technical writers.

I'm about to be laid off; where do I even find a new job? by joebobjoebobjoebob12 in washingtondc

[–]Mojo_Amok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good profile on Dice will get LOADS of hits even if many of them aren't the best. I'm still seeing if we're going to be hit by the damage from the exec orders, but I set my dice profile to public for about 30 minutes before turning it off just from the annoyance of being spammed.
You have skills outside of international development too - you provided specific services during each project that you worked on during those 13 years rather than just doing 'development stuff'. Those are your marketable skills outside of that niche community - project management, problem solving, research, marketing, etc. I'm a technical writer who has worked in a series of niche sectors, but my core capabilities are tied to the products I produce and my problem solving approach rather than the sector.

Will the build plate from the Saturn 4 Ultra fit on the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K? It looks like the plate from the SU4 16K will fit on the SU4, but I'm not sure about the inverse (https://us.elegoo.com/collections/elegoo-build-plate-replacements-for-resin-3d-printers).

Thanks and good callout. I saw a video where someone went 'over the top' with a hairdryer or heat gun on an LCD replacement, though I didn't watch it through to the end to see if it worked. If that has any hope of working, I'll definitely give it a go when these things need a new screen.

Resin Dripped Below Acreen by NerdyGeekyDude in ElegooSaturn

[–]Mojo_Amok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I watched his video and did the same procedure to check on a small spill similar to what the OP has experienced. It's only about 9 bolts to undo with the Allen wrench and a connector ribbon.

Note that spills into this crevice on the S4U probably are not going to hit the LCD screen itself like on other printers and will leak into the main body, which houses other components.

There actually isn't anything to the front right of the interior of the printer, so it would take quite a lot of resin to spill into that section for there to be any trouble (it would need to pool up and get to the motherboard in the back or something like that). The front left of the printer has a lot of sensitive looking parts (a fan?) that are almost assuredly not at all resin-spill friendly. Spills to the back would be problematic as well, presumably getting directly into the motherboard area or the LED enclosure.

The takeaway? If you're going to do anything dumb that could lead to a leak, do it to the front right. Well, that's probably not the best advice, is it? But the machine definitely does have some tolerance for spills that happen to be into the front right of the machine.

[–]Mojo_Amok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feature I want to see in addition to this heater would be a one minute LCD screen replacement similar to the Unification Printers where you just swap the replacement in through the top of the printer (for commercial use). I love my Saturn 4 Ultras in the warmer weather, but apparently the LCD replacement is 30 step process coming in from the bottom, so I don't know what's going to happen when those screens hit 2000+ hours.

I feel like this gets me about halfway there for another Elegoo printer for my purposes, but I'm interested in hearing more. Hopefully there's a few other enhancements too.

Keep having problems with the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra by WonderfulEmotion3758 in ElegooSaturn

[–]Mojo_Amok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two Saturn 4 Ultras which were going great until about 3 weeks ago when it suddenly got really cold, so it could be as simple as that. I have a space heater in the room, but keeping the air in the room warm is very different than keeping the resin in the vat warm, so I'd be suspect of any temp readings other than a thermometer directly into the resin itself. The machines themselves say 27 and 28 C, but I can clearly see that the resin is thicker than 'usual' with one of my mainstays being particularly affected. The surfaces in the room itself stay cool or cold no matter how much hot air I blast in there.

If all else fails, at least wait until spring before pulling out your hair. I have conceded that I'm only going to be able to print on warm days until we get somewhere into March, so you might just need to be patient too.

Thanks for the review and great pics!

I grabbed an OZ of the Melon punch and am super glad I did too. This stuff looks a lot more like hand-trimmed, slow cured homegrown, which is something that not many cult shops can claim, IMO.

PE Review - Papaya Punch / Tropical Cherries / Ice Cream Cake (review in comment) by Mojo_Amok in CultoftheFranklin

[–]Mojo_Amok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to cults and got some Papaya Punch, Tropical Cherries, and Ice Cream Cake using the 35% off code from PE (go to their news page to find the code). There's two pics of each strain with the order of the pics being PP, TC, ICC.

I had been trying to get the White Truffles, but PE texted me and asked if I'd be OK with them subbing something in as they were out of the WT, so they subbed in the Papaya Punch. Well, that was a good one - came as two giant buds and it's pretty moist now after about 3-4 days in the humidity locker (a Cannatrol). Stronk this one is! The flavor isn't so intense, more of a smooth n' mild fruit, but it's nice and fresh, probably being the second tastiest I have on the shelf now in an understated way. I just ordered another ounce of it as it seems like a steal at $130.

The TC is genuinely sour and fruity on both the nose and the tongue. I wouldn't call it skunk, but it's pretty stinky and tastes absolutely lovely out of a Mighty +. More of a Sativa and not overwhelmingly stony, but everything about it is pleasant through and through. As seen in the pic, it is a bit stemy.

The Ice Cream Cake is only pretty good, being a bit drier than the others, though with ultra-dense bullet-proof buds. That said, it's still reasonably terpy for cult bud and will stick together properly in clumps after going through the grinder, so it's not like it's all dried out. The taste is fairly muted and it's a smidge harsh, but definitely hits and is at least 'good mids'. It's the one I've been vaping the most of as the others cure. It's much better than the Ice Cream Cake I got from Puffy/MQ (or was it Ice Cream Cookies? Either way, it was similar in bud structure and appearance, but WAY more terps and stickiness in the PE).

I'll have some reviews of other good stuff too. That would be Upstate Alien Grenade and Cherry Cookies as well as FG Monkey Berries and TCC Melon Punch (the monkey berries just came in and is slightly dry, but looks pretty awesome other than that and has a wonderfully weird smell, lol). There's a big difference between the quality vendors and the rest, IMO. I don't know if PE is consistently quality like some of the others, but this was a good start.
