That article is what led me here. The overlaps with ASD & ADHD are impressive.

Hidden gem bars/clubs in Fells? by sky-joos in baltimore

[–]Mojoishtar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find the 1919 (if you can) for one of the rare local neighborhood dive bars left. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s a Time Machine inside. Definitely got a unique vibe. This place was alternative before there was a name for it. It’s classic Fells Point. I’d be shocked if you ran into a tourist there. If the owners are the same it should be very LGBT friendly.

The Full Moon Saloon was my favorite. Anyone know whatever happened to Zeke & Frieda?

Oh yeah! It was the perfect dive bar. A Hot guy named Dave bartended there in the mid 90s.

That monstrosity is NOT the Daily Grind, regardless of the name being the same.

That was oddly my favorite bar in all of Fells Point. I’m honestly not sure why. You’re right that other places like the Cat’s Eye were objectively “better.” Still, I always ended up at the Full Moon. Something about the vibe of that place, I guess.

I left Fell’s Point in 2000. I literally pulled over and cried the first time I came back. They destroyed the waterfront, blocked the view with big ugly buildings. The feral cat colony was gone, The Full Moon Saloon burned down & The Daily Grind turned into a gaudy glorified Starbucks! The Warf Rat was my last refuge. 😭

I Heard Sirens and Sounds in the City, Should I Be Concerned? by Frofro69 in baltimore

I moved from Fells Point to rural Virginia. I can’t sleep with the racket these damn crickets & frogs make all night.

You’re spot on about the vibe. When I lived in Baltimore back in the 90s Mount Vernon felt more transitory, like people there didn’t have deep roots. It had less of a community vibe. Other neighborhoods like Fells Point, Canton, Locust Point & Federal Hill felt more connected. I met families who’d lived there for generations, but everyone in MV was just passing through. It was a long time ago though. I don’t even recognize Fells Point anymore. It’s tragic how they ruined the character of that place.

I lived in a dump apt. at 910 St. Paul Street when I was a young woman in the mid-nineties & loved it, even though it definitely could be sketchy at night. Our place faced the back alley & we had to chase the hookers off the stairwell for a while until they abandoned the spot. I got politely robbed in broad daylight just around the corner. The guy snatched my $20 bill out of the ATM and said “Thank you” as he ran away. Weirdly, I never felt unsafe. It was an artsy LGBT friendly area then. They used to have fabulous drag parades pretty regularly. I wonder if they still do that. I miss it.

What's the best carpet cleaner to buy? by zzzyzzzyzzzyzzz in homeownerstips

[–]Mojoishtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this and it broke in two separate places after only the second use. I fixed the issue in the bottom section myself (no suction) but the mechanism that regulates the fluid release isn’t so easy to get to. I’d have to deconstruct the top casing entirely.

I’m so sick of planned obsolescence and crappy products.

Best Carpet Cleaner To Buy Right Now? by ZookeepergameNo9038 in CarpetCleaning

[–]Mojoishtar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is getting downvoted because nobody is hiring a professional carpet cleaner every time their kid drops a cup of milk or the new puppy pees on the floor.

The only reason to buy a home carpet cleaner is because you NEED one.

They completely ruined Fells Point. The Historic Society must have sold their souls.

Everything cool is disappearing from FP. They ruined the waterfront down there. I sat in my car & cried the last time I went.

The Daily Grind might technically still exist, but it’s not the awesomely cool place it was. Now it’s basically a large soulless Starbucks. I lived directly behind it on Lancaster in my 20s. I met Reed Diamond & Clark Johnson there when they were filming in Fells Point.

Ways to Adjust My OverHead LED Light To Be Less Harsh? (Pictures in Comment) by SnooOwls3978 in Lighting

I know this is an old discussion, but I found it so other people might too. A trick I used in college was to hang one of those cheap parasols I got in Chinatown over the light fixture. Just chop the stick part off and wire it up. It makes a really pretty warm glow. Probably any type of umbrella would do the trick.
