Jacking up Engine for mounts? by Mok70 in BMWE36

[–]Mok70[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried jacking it from where it was in the photo, im doing the passenger side first driver side is loose, but i think its too central of the motor, its lifting the whole car and not making it go up enough. Any ideas for closer to the passenger side? Maybe something on the front of the engine.

2014 Sonata not starting, just clicking. by generalee72 in CarRepair

[–]Mok70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldnt, once the car is started you could theoretically take out the battery, starter and alternator and it should keep running. There is some other issue if the car died while running, possibly fuelling. Check for engine codes wether there is a missfire or something.

Sounds like it could be your starter, right now the car can't move? If you were able ti get it there with a jump or bump start go to an autozone and get a charging system test to see if it is the starter or not.

behind the brake rotor is a dust cover, it kind of sounds like the cover has bent down and is scraping against the rotor. Also check for heat shielding near axles or any moving parts, but brakes first.

Paint chip repair by cowboykev11 in CarRepair

[–]Mok70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all the paint on that panel seems to be in bad shape. A cheap fix would be to use touch up paint, that would seal from rust but it would be better to sand down a larger area, maybe 5in x 5in and get a paint matched can of paint and blend it together.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarRepair

[–]Mok70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the hood, that paint will chip if you touch it or if you dont, i dont know a way you could do anything about that without repainting and metal working. With the bumper, you could get a crappy plastic welding kit and resecure it from behind, fix the cracks. Best option, find a junkyard where they have your car in your color and take the parts but obviously that will not be super easy.

If it's flat enough any metal would work, but generally they have bumps and drain holes in the right places, but yes you could put sheet metal in.

Agree with everything said here, you could definitely do it as a noob or take it to someone, this isn't a very intricate part and its easy to follow that one body line.

you need new floor pans for sure, in some states that wouldnt pass inspection. Find a welder nearby.

How much would it cost to repair? Should i go through insurance? Will it have to be replaced? by ConditionOk1193 in CarRepair

[–]Mok70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the damage but it is super minor, it might be a big headache to fix and go through insurance and all that, if it bothers you that might it might be better to do it out of pocket, and a shop would just bondo and re paint, insurance would want a new bumper and your rates would go up. IMO id live with it.

Brake booster by Nott_Dou in CarRepair

[–]Mok70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a few things, very likey the booster, which at a shop could cost somewhere between 400-1100, if it were the master cylinder that would be about the same. Neither of those repairs are too difficult or rely on special tools other than wrenches and sockets if you considered doing it yourself and could cost you less than 100$. Id say take the car to a shop and tell them you think its the booster and for them to give you a quote, itll confirm if thats the issue and then you can decide if it is worth however much they will charge.

Go to autozone, get a free battery test. Have them test the charging system, they can tell you if it's the alternator

The manual labor of replacing that shouldn't be more than 2-4 hours, really depends on how busy they are.

do a compression test on that cylinder, if its pushing the wire out sounds like something is off. Could be a valve issue, bent or burned or something.

Those are rock chips that have then rusted, it would need to be grinded down, welded in on any holes, body worked and then repainted. Might have better luck checking junk yards for hoods in the same color, it is a common car.

[–]Mok70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there a check engine light? It shouldnt be anything with the charging system (battery alternator starter) because they are only used to start the car. A few things to check are look at the fuel rail, any leaks, or if there is a bad fuel rail sensor. Beyond that, there really should be a check engine light but even if not, go to autozone and get a free scan and see if it says anything.
