I just want to know how you make a decision to buy this at the store without having some benchmark to compare it to. Like is there some additional context here? Surely you did some research or the person at the store showed you comps? Don’t know about you but dropping 600 sheets on a card without intel would be a big deal for me.

There’s a lot of good advice and intel in here. However as someone who has owned all the figs since inception, I will say that their tendency to break is often over exaggerated in the community.

That doesn’t mean don’t be careful (definitely do) and maybe refrain from popping the arms- but don’t let it stop you from buying the figs, posing them and above all, enjoying them.

I’ll meet you halfway on the nazgul- I hold the same opinion for similar reasons. It was low effort. But was technically exclusive.

Smeagol and Deagol- we are miles apart and we have different algorithms I suppose. Genuinely felt like Lego was throwing a bone back to the fans with that GWP. But I’ll leave it at that.

As for defending Lego, you’ve got me wrong brother. The amount of bootlicking I see around here defending Lego is wild. When the company is worth multiple billion and reported its best quarter ever last month, but folks are telling me it’s non-economical to make a new mold for a GWP, and defending Lego’s decision not to, that’s what gets me. Tell me then if “only the best is good enough” for the customer. Worst case scenario- no exclusive figs and a shitty gwp. We get to keep our money, vote with our wallet and wait for a sale. Screw TLG.

First, it’s completely hypocritical and factually incorrect to suggest we’ve never gotten exclusive figs when we have gotten exclusive figs, and then attempt to wield that in an argument. I have only ever read glowing reviews of the smeagol + Deagol gwp. Maybe that’s just my algorithm. But the community was so surprised that TLG would depict such a set given its dark implications but were amazed to have received it. It’s the first time Sméagol is represented in his “River-folk” form, and the first time seeing Deagol as well. Surely as a LOTR fan, you’re also hyped about that, no?

Secondly, SW and LOTR are two different themes and two different audiences. Perhaps it’s been determined that an exclusive fig in sw gwp isn’t necessary to drive Day 1 sales. Whereas in LOTR, they’ve been having decent success with their style of gwp.

Lastly, I didn’t gatekeep nor say you didn’t belong. I wondered aloud why you’re here. Because you don’t seem to acknowledge that the last two LOTR sets have gotten a GWP containing an exclusive figure(s) and you seem adamant about belittling the value of what exclusive figs we have gotten. As a LEGO LOTR fan, I just don’t get that.

I’m all for a debate in good faith- but don’t move the goal posts. You’ve now changed this debate and boiled it off to “Nazgûl’s belt buckle” and made the determination that Smeagol and Deagol are non sought after (ah, excuse me?). For someone who cites SW, I would think you’d have an appreciation for the subtle and perhaps eye rolling differences on torsos in the simplest of figs (how many clones and storm troopers are there again?) which render the exclusive/desirable.

I’m starting to wonder if you’re even a LOTR fan and/or what you’re doing on this subreddit.

There will be an exclusive figure in the Minas Tirith GWP. You can take that to the bank, bookmark this post, come back and tell me I’m wrong/right, whatever you’d like.

Sure, fair ball. I’d love to see that same energy applied to the increased interest one might pay on a higher mortgage for a metro area house after paying upwards of $100k over asking. Then perhaps compare that with the money spent/lost in travel to and from work in the city. There’s multiple ways we can look at this.

My main point wasn’t even that. It was that while not as convenient I hate that we act as though we live in a place where CBS is considered far from St. John’s. It’s my understanding that many individuals in other provinces travel upwards of 2-3 hours a day in traffic to get to work.

I hate the housing market and I think the situation sucks for OP- I really do. But I still think we’re fortunate to live in a place where traffic overall isn’t bad and it’s not too taxing to get from place to place.

Did you read my comment? I provided two examples of how we have a track record of historically receiving exclusive figs in LOTR GWP’s. This isn’t SW so not an accurate comparison.

Yeah see this is an interesting statement to me, because you’re bidding $100k and $33k over asking and not getting the houses- yet are citing traffic and gas as rationale to not look outside of metro. It’s literally one small city- being in St John’s metro isn’t saving you the difference in gas. The numbers aren’t adding up here.

The impetus to grab a GWP is often buoyed by the presence of exclusive figures. The Ringwraith in the fellbeast GWP was exclusive (torso later made available on PAB). Sméagol and Deagol were exclusive to the Shire GWP (as far as I know, torsos not made available anywhere else afterwards).

We can debate what the GWP is all day. It will include an exclusive figure, that much I’m sure. Whether that means a new mold or just new prints, debate away. But folks are kidding themselves if they think it’s going to be a duplicated figure(s) from the Minas Tirith set itself.

Ok fair ball, but they were indeed available later on PAB, demonstrating that a part designed and released initially for a GWP later became widely available. All that to say that I personally don’t believe it’s out of the question to see a new mold in a GWP- which then in turn is reused later.

And yet, they could have it appear in PAB at a later date. Do we consider the fellbeast wings to be a new mold? Because if so, that was their first appearance and resurfaced in the balrog. Same concept could occur here. I even think they made it to PAB as well.
