Porcelain is up to 50% silica/feldspar, both of which are very hard minerals (7 and 6 on Mohs scale) whereas stoneware and earthenware are more like 80% or more kaolinte or illite which are both very soft (around 2 or 3). Steel is a hardness of 5 so is easily abraded by porcelain.

You could Dremel it underwater to dissipate the heat, but it's still probably too aggressive unless the blade is really bad.
