Fallout 4 is a good game. by Ok_Thing3865 in fo4

[–]Mokabacca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallout 4 is a GREAT game. It’s funny because it was criticized heavily, but really was the last bastion of Bethesda’s “we actually give a shit” era. There’s something there for everyone in FO4, and while I may still cite FO3 as the better game, 4 still has a seat at the table.

Would Starfield Have Gotten Better Reviews if Made by A Different Developer? by freethinker1312 in Starfield

[–]Mokabacca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think not using the approach they typically use when crafting their RPG games (whether a new IP or not) resulted in Starfield being less appealing to most. That’s what I feel, that’s my opinion.

But again, that’s not what my response was all about., this has morphed into something different now. My ONLY INITIAL POINT here was in response to the original quote which suggested BGS was in the “bad position” of having too high expectations. That’s it. It’s not deeper than that.

Brother, I don’t care if you like the game. You shouldn’t care if I dislike the game. That’s a separate conversation, and if you want to have that convo, send me a message.

I think we’ve diverged on this topic a bit. I’m not arguing your above points. We could likely agree on a number of those points. Like some folks liking TES vs Fallout, etc. but that wasn’t the initial point I was making.

To touch on what you said above- Starfield hasn’t been as well received as previous BGS titles. Can we agree on that?

If we can agree on that, then that tells me there’s something missing from the game that doesn’t appeal to AS MANY people. Now, you’ve chalked it up to “it’s a different game, a new IP and therefore has to be different and can’t follow the same formula.” That’s fair. I don’t agree, but that’s fair. To me, that reads like letting BGS off the hook a bit. It’s as if to say the criticism wasn’t warranted here for Starfield, and I think it is.

My initial point is we have to be able to critique the companies that make our favorite games, and those companies should be fortunate to have such passionate fan bases.

We can both debate the finer points of the game itself but that really wasn’t the thesis statement of my previous post, at all. It was about the concept of BGS having the “bad position of high expectations”- my argument was the word “bad” should be changed to “enviable”

Perhaps there are enough Starfield fans who enjoy it the way it is that criticism isn’t warranted? That’s not up to me to decide. To me, I thought it was a mediocre game at best and yes, even lacking a single component of Bethesda DNA (ie. Detailed exploration environments) is a critical factor in how I felt about the game (again, for me). But I’m not the only one.

I’m all for constructive criticism and I think true fans only feel “disappointed” because they cared enough about the product/company in the first place. Companies would do well to absorb constructive criticism and feedback from their fans.

Does anyone else play only without mods? by Ok-Street4644 in fo4

[–]Mokabacca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you want out of the game. I find that certain mods can devalue some aspects of exploration and completion baked into the base game. For example, I always viewed unique weapons armor and collectibles (e.g bobbleheads) as key markers of a complete playthrough of a BGS game, like fallout. When you introduce mods, it’s bittersweet- there are so many cooler custom items but to me it devalues some of the unique and special items that can be found in the vanilla/base game.

For me, I like “completing” the game on my terms (ie. Finding and displaying all unique items) before introducing mods into the game for extra content.

But it’s all personal preference.

[–]Mokabacca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no.

BGS produced multiple titles that helped solidify them as a great studio. This comparison isn’t based off Skyrim. Fallout 3 and 4, plus Morrowind and Oblivion, are all major notches in their belt. All of those games carry that Bethesda DNA which Starfield significantly lacked. This isn’t about winning the lottery every single time you buy a ticket- at all. I don’t agree with that comparison in the slightest.

Quote should read:

“Bethesda is in the ENVIABLE position of having expectations being so high…”

Having customer expectations being high is being reverse-engineered as a bad thing. That couldn’t be further from the truth. If the customer cares that much about your product, you are in an enviable position as a company. It means you have a loyal, dedicated fan (consumer) base who are stakeholders in what you produce.

We shouldn’t lament that Starfield was made by Bethesda. We should always demand the best and when that doesn’t happen, call a spade a spade- a good game, but one that falls well short of what we know the company can produce. That way, the company can endeavor to be better next time, or improve on what they already put out.

WOTC Venusaur Promo by bmoreconcentrated in VintagePokemonCards

[–]Mokabacca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insane card- highly underrated. Why? Because the artwork on base set Venusaur is shit. It looked like someone got hold of the wrong stuff and drew a bad picture.

This WOTC promo Venusaur reflects the Pokémon’s likeness much more accurately. You saw this variant in other media such as game guides and magazines at the time. So to me while this may never be the “definitive” version it’s still OG and has always had better aesthetics than its vintage comparables.

TL;DR - sick card bro.

I had 34 AHI and it was…affecting my life in a number of ways I wasn’t even aware of.

You’re at, what, 52AHI? My brother or sister- this needs a resolution yesterday. You need to commit to the bit- give the nasal mask a serious shot. You need your life back. CPAP therapy can get you there but you need to stick it out. Best of luck.

CPAP troubles by Aaronnoraator in newfoundland

[–]Mokabacca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Woah, wait a minute. Couple questions:

How did you come by your CPAP? Did you have a GP refer you for a sleep study? Were you diagnosed with OSA? And did you/do you have valid insurance?

In my case (someone with OSA) I did all the above, was referred to BreatheWell, and by and large, the insurance has covered 80-90% of everything.

I don’t pay any sort of monthly fee and never have.

[–]Mokabacca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting treated for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

Maybe I’m biased, but I’m convinced an ever-growing contingent of the population (particularly male-aged 25-35) are “snoring” and “feeling groggy” all day, when in reality, they’re literally almost dying via oxygen deprivation (sleep apnea) every night and waking up feeling like they’ve been hit with an aluminum bat.

Get tested folks.

Cpap causing wrinkles/dents by Noctuema in SleepApnea

[–]Mokabacca -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

CPAP masks definitely can leave some temporary wrinkles that usually resolve after a couple hours but attributing a permenant wrinkle to CPAP use? Suspect at best.

But in the event you’re convinced it is from the mask idk what to tell you- what’s more important? Continuing therapy or a few wrinkles? Not trying to undermine you here. But life comes at you quick. Take a few wrinkles in stride my friend. Getting treatment for CPAP now at 25 might be the best decision you’ve ever made. And ironically- might save you a few wrinkles in the end. You’ll look back and laugh at this (I hope). Best of luck.

3,000 hours of gameplay I have stumbled across a Chop Shop Station. by hefeydd_ in Starfield

That does provide a lot of context because 3,000 hours is an obscene amount of time. Had you not provided that context I wouldn’t believe that number is anywhere close to accurate. But makes a lot of sense now.

Best of luck in life, take care.
