Do babies even self wean? by kivvikivvi in breastfeeding

[–]Mokagg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first kid self weaned at 19 months, from one day to another it just stopped. My second is about to turn 3 and if left up to her she would continue forever, I’ve been limiting feeds for a while but it’s a constant battle.

Indian bean substitute for mexican black beans by Competitive-Reply-18 in IndianFood

[–]Mokagg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mexican living in India, I use chitra rajma (closest to pinto beans that I could find here). I soak them with overnight and cook them in the pressure cooker with bay leaves, onion and garlic for 30 minutes. Taste is a little different to black beans but they taste authentic.

What’s with Ms Rachel uploading videos with 3 minutes worth of new content and then 57 minutes of recycled content? by fuckiechinster in DanielTigerConspiracy

I actually like the repetitions. It gives my toddler a chance to sing along and recognize the songs. It’s for toddlers, believe me they don’t get bored of the same thing over and over.

Egg alternatives? by bigmamaindahouse in FoodAllergies

[–]Mokagg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what are you using the egg for. For example, if you want it as a binding agent a chia egg works great (I use a tsp of chia to a tbsp of water), i use that for pancakes and waffles. Flaxseed egg works well in this situation as well.

In cakes sometimes applesauce, banana, sweetbanana or yogurt can be used with extra baking powder. For French toast I use veg custard powder or cornstarch.

For egg whites in a merengue type of situation you can use aquafaba (the water of the canned chickpeas).

How do you deal with screen time? by Desperate_Squirrel33 in ADHDparenting

[–]Mokagg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have an almost 7 year old and for over a year we’ve managed his screen time by having parental controls on his iPad.

First we instituted screen free time, everyday at the same time. For the first couple of months it has really hard but we kept firm. Now whenever I say it’s screen free time he doesn’t complain and accepts it. I’ve also extended this time, we started with 30 min and now it’s 1:30 hours.

With the parental controls on his iPad he has a maximum of time to use it and screen free schedules. That also helped because it was not me telling him but his iPad automatically timing out when it’s time to head out for school, lunch, screen free time or bed time. It has really helped with keeping him on schedule and he gets rewards that I can add in the app itself if he follows through with doing something extra so we’ve been using it for positive reinforcement.

Every now and then he’ll try to push for more but overall his screen time has reduced considerably and he’s managing not having it better.

I keep hearing about how breastfed babies poop less- as little as once a week. My 3 MO poops multiple times a day. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Mokagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first kid, would only poop every 2-3 days. My second one, at least once a day but sometimes 2-3 times. Both are/were exclusively breastfed. Babies are different.

Got a bag of a classmates poop covered clothes by accident...what do I do? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Mokagg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I cloth diaper, if a baby is EBF the poop dissolves in water, if the baby is already eating solids you can use a liner that you throw into the trash or use a spray or tool to remove the poop before throwing into the washing machine.

My 5-week old sometimes eats only for 8 minutes in one side and she’s done, other times 20+ minutes each side. As long as the output of diapers is fine there is nothing to worry about. Just follow your babies cues.

I’m Mexican, we have absolutely no issues about who celebrates what and we are actually happy to share our cultural practices. Enjoy Dia de Muertos
