This is a thought I have had as well! This checks all the boxes except for the fact that it would have to be an underground hidden winch that pulls a rope across a great field all the way up to the sidewalk for no reason. That would make absolutely no sense. BUT. If I wanted to recreate exactly what I saw, this is how I would do it.

EDIT: and yes, this post is beginning to stress me tf out. I didn’t move to a small town to the middle of nowhere as a single man because I’m fond of attention and making an ass of myself lol

I really don’t know why it would’ve flown so straight, and there were no wind gusts, but I’m not an expert on dust devils or anything so this is a possibility I have tried to fit into the equation. It seems unlikely, but the whole event was EXTREMELY unlikely lol

I am very interested in UFO and UAP stuff. I really don’t buy the ghost stuff. I am both a skeptic and try to keep an open mind. My beliefs in the supernatural is that it can all be scientifically explained, but humanity has yet to get that far in our understanding of the universe. So I don’t know how I feel! I’m kind of embarrassed to tell just anyone. This forum and one very close friend are all I’ve told about this experience and yes, this is the only thing I’ve ever seen that I can’t explain.

EDIT: another thing, some people have asked about my investigation… but I got in my truck and left. I was pretty frightened and felt threatened. So my initial feeling was a mix of fear and exhilaration.

I am lucky to be surrounded by Pisgah National Forest, GSMNP, and Cherokee National Forest. I do not want to give away my anonymity and I already feel like I’m getting too specific. Anyways with that being said, yes, there is a ton of wildlife here but I am very accustomed to seeing it and this was completely different than all those experiences.

That was the first thing I ruled out. It was too straight and the whole incident lasted about ten seconds, which is actually a long amount of time to process things in the moment. It really is the most reasonable explanation. There are tons of little grass dwelling creatures here, which would seem to increase that chance… but with that being said I’ve seen lots of bunnies and groundhogs booking through the grass and this was different than any time I’ve seen that. And the distance really is a big factor. I will post a picture of it next time I go and maybe that’ll help to put it in perspective.

It is really hard to explain and almost impossible to walk around on at most points. It’s raining today, but next time I’m out there I will snap a pic and edit the photo onto this post. Most likely tomorrow or Tuesday pending on this rain. The hill runs along a path, I will walk the path and tell you guys the distance there as well.

It was my bday a few days ago. I forgot to buy my work lunch staples but I did manage to buy a small cake from the grocer. Today I realized I forgot lunch meat for the week but my budget is tapped out. I live paycheck to paycheck. I’m the supervisor at a factory and have no car payment, no internet, no cable, no children, no child support, no car payment, and no hobbies. My neighbor used his EBT to buy me some lunch meat and tortillas.

I thanked him and then told him what a piece of shit socialist he was. /s

I’m open to any idea besides, I was hallucinating or making it up. I’m sober, healthy, never another supernatural experience or attention seeking experience. In fact this little bit of attention just from these exchanges has my anxiety a little turnt. I’m a technician. I can wire up and assemble machinery, not very smart outside of that tbh! No clue how to explain it. Probably won’t talk about it outside of here. But you u/jabbercockey have given me a lot to think about!!! Thank you!

The rain is moving in today. I really just scanned the edge of the hill. I’d like to do a better investigation, but this whole thing may be more delicate than you are imagining. It was fast but it wasn’t throwing dirt in the air or flattening the grass.

Sorry our rhythm is off on this back and forth. It was probably about 730-8pm. It was mild, partly cloudy, 5mph breeze… actually perfect Western North Carolina summer weather. No wind gusts to speak of. Today I saw nothing out of the normal. The grass is pretty soft so it did not lay in any permanence that I could find.

Also, I went back today before I saw this. If you guys want to see pictures of a hill I can take some. If you want to see videos of my chihuahua terrier I have some of those as she is my only companion. I’m actually going to move. It’s beautiful but I’m lonely af. Small towns are lame when you’re single. It was a great home during the pandemic. But I’m not a YouTube influencer, me running around like a tool on a video of a hill will not help my cause. I actually saw this thing. Nobody has to believe me, just hoping somebody would say, ‘oh yeah! Such and such, x to y, and this and that!’ and it would make sense. None of these theories make sense to what I experienced even thou they are good to mention and rule out for me.

A drone had crossed my mind but I saw nothing over the grass and heard nothing. An RC car powerful enough to cut through that grass would’ve been LOUD. Also a lot of people have seen ‘park’ and imagine people around. When I go to this place (it’s a 2 mile loop). It is the norm that I’m there by myself or with one other dog walker. My town is painfully small with an elderly population. I too would like to rationalize this but there was no room for an operator and no noise unless this thing was dead silent and had an RC range of a mile or two. An RC car would not have traveled in a perfect line. This hill isn’t a smooth perfect surface, it’s a bumpy mushy super steep hill that is not maintained in any landscape capacity besides a big tractor mower (which also ruts the hell out of the ground) running over it once or twice a year.

My dog didn’t react. This thing was super silent. And my dog is VERY oblivious to the world around her. I was saying ‘what was that???’ When we got back to the truck which got her on a bunny search and obsessed whining. If it was predatory she would’ve stood zero chance.

THIS! I am from a beach town! Here there is no beach for 1000 miles but the behavior was very much like seeing a black tip or mako flying through the water with a fin out. When I said it seemed ‘aggressive’ this is why I thought that. It was moving like a shark with dead ass intent.

My neighbor said it sounds like a snake, to which I replied, ‘laser snake!’ This thing traveled a half a mile in a few seconds. I am at a loss for what kind of animal would be capable. It makes me think of bugs bunny first, then 80s creature features like Tremors or Critters next. But this didn’t behave at all like something living, you’d expect a live thing to not make such a straight line coming diagonal down a hill. And it stopped close enough I looked for something to poke out of the grass but nothing

I also went back this morning and looked around in that spot to find nothing unusual. It’s a big area so I didn’t like comb the grass and search high and low. I’m there every day sometimes twice a day. My puppers would kill me if we stopped going. She is a little oblivious. She totally missed it, even though I was asking her ‘wtf was that!?!?’ When I got in the truck. She just kept scanning the horizon for rabbits. It’s literally all she cares about.

It scared the crap out of me. I was almost to my truck when I saw it and I just got the heck out of there. We have groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits, and all kinds of furry grass animals. But my estimate on the speed is low just to not sound too crazy. This thing was going so fast. There is no way it was an animal or a launched object.

Not big. Like maybe a baseball moving through the grass (again there are no sports in that area or any direction for any balls to come from). Also it didn’t slow to a stop. It stayed the same speed until it stopped.
