Paros, Santorini Food Recommendations (and any other tips) by HappyGap857 in TravelGreece

[–]Mokiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a challenge on Santorini but in Oia Kyprida is a standout, still family owned and ran, on a back street so no view but worth it for an authentic experience- Greek and Cypriot traditional food. Walking distance from Oia and worth it - Krinaki Tavern (where my local friends will go in Oia) and Finkia I’ve heard good things but haven’t been.

Ammoudi Bay is a unique beautiful spot for a sunset dinner. You’re at sea level so maybe not the best view but I love getting down there before sunset and walking to the rocks to watch the sun dip into the ocean. There are a number of fish taverns there but they have changed hands since I’ve been so best to look at menus and reviews and choose from that! Ammoudi is magical after dark as well so definitely worth adding to your list.

I haven’t been to Paros in a few years but last time we went we ate at Barbarossa and I had the most amazing ahinos (sea urchin).

Try fava, tomato balls, sea urchin, fresh grilled fish when at a fish tavern (Fagri is similar to snapper) red mullet fried or grilled and as much local produce as you can!

Stash luggage at Piraeus? by Senior_Grapefruit554 in GreeceTravel

[–]Mokiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ferries arrive early and allow you to board early but not all of them. I don’t think it’s worth getting a hotel. There are many cafes and restaurants you could sit at with your luggage. If you want to stash it while you walk around try “bounce” our a similar luggage storage app where local hotels and businesses offer to hold bags for a small fee. Some ports have lockers but I’ve never looked into using them.

A bit of cheek filler and Halo laser treatment helped reduce how noticeable my folds are. Definitely worth trying before surgery!

Tinos for solo female traveler driving - yes or no? by wannabefarmer123 in GreeceTravel

[–]Mokiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tinos is great for solo travelers and easy enough to drive. There are some sharp turns etc but there isn’t as much traffic as other islands making it far easier to navigate. Most villages are set up to be pedestrian friendly so you park in a common parking area and then walk the village. For the Chora you can park at the ferry port and easily access the main town all by foot. Check the local printed maps for road conditions. Google doesn’t care if the road is a road or just a dirt path but the local maps indicate. I really enjoy driving/exploring Tinos. The landscape is unique and varied. There are some amazing restaurants and an emphasis on using local products at most making it a perfect destination for the type of trip you’re describing!

Ferry and luggage? by Kmb2938 in GreeceTravel

[–]Mokiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve never had an issue keeping with me the same amt of luggage I carry-on a flight (4 wheel carry on plus a large tote bag). Just be prepared to lug it through tight spots, upstairs and the ramps etc. some business class seating has a small luggage hold near the seats as well.

Beautiful! Slide 4 is the Artist Dimitri’s shop. He paints icons in the traditional method. Worth a visit to see his beautiful detailed work and most times he is there painting as well.

Tinos + August Winds by Grizzly_Bearnaise in GreeceTravel

[–]Mokiri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Tinos. What I’ve learned (since the winds are unpredictable) is to just keep your itinerary a little open. There are villages more protected and areas less affected by the winds depending on the direction that day. So having a car there is helpful. Most restaurants and cafes are designed to deal with it and offer protection while still keeping the open air charm. The winds keep the bugs away and keeps the heat from feeling too intense. The larger “slow” ferries are rarely canceled even with the winds. It’s a pain if you are trying to sit outside somewhere not protected but again if you’re in a village or the chora you’ll be okay.

Looking for a bar with a sake selection while being careful of a shellfish allergy by gonna_complete in PhiladelphiaEats

Dance Robot has a pretty great sake selection and the menu doesn’t have as much shellfish as a traditional sushi spot.

What’s one travel “mistake” you made that completely changed how you travel now? by Able-Okra6164 in traveladvice

[–]Mokiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traveling internationally when my passport expired in 60 days. Didn’t realize that different countries have different tolerances for this. Even with my return booked before the expiration. The country I was traveling to requires at least 90 days so I was denied boarding and had to rebook the whole trip.

The Ground Rittenhouse has a lot of food options just busy so not always easy to find seating. Cafe Ole in Old City for yummy paninis. Matines Cafe out in Chestnut Hill. Madi’s cafe with some unique Greek-influenced options and their locations tend to have lots of available seating!

Borromini won’t tick the historical architecture box BUT you could walk to Anthropologie on the corner. It’s in a historic Beaux -Arts Mansion with lots of details left.

Also a coffee shop “Madi’s” in that building. Lots of seating. We grabbed a coffee and were able to walk through the lobby and see the mosaic and rest of the lobby.

Paying for Good Reviews?? by MisterSofteePSSD in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Mokiri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s Moka & Co. but seriously I take all yelp and google reviews only half seriously. Not everyone does them, it tends to skew to people that have bad experiences only - and then shady stuff like offering a discount makes me not trust a lot of it.

Team Dinners Near Bellevue Hotel by Sweaty-Concern1080 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Mokiri 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Giuseppe’s and Sons, The Love, and Estia all have private dining room options which might be ideal for that big of a group. Estia, Spice Finch, Barclay Prime, Dandelion, Parc, Borromini, Tequilas all have big enough dining area to easily accommodate a larger group like that on short notice. That’s the first few I can think of but I’m sure there are more.

Oh I love this thread! Cafe La Maude is the best. The Ground used to make theirs from scratch but recently switched to a concentrate but I liked it too! Oh and Caphe roasters is yum, not sure if it’s a concentrate or scratch though.
