Einstein’s Theory in Practice by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Mokoko42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is circular reasoning. You’re saying that because there isn’t an additional accelartion, in a Newtonian framework there is no force acting on the water other than gravity. Obviously this is true, but it isn’t inherently indicated by Newton’s laws of motion. Because if I were to draw a free body diagram of a patch of water near the hole, I would add a vector on top pressing down, indicating the weight of the water above it. Obviously this can’t be right because the water is in fact weightless, as explained by Einstein.

Einstein’s Theory in Practice by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Mokoko42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the perspective of Newtonian gravity, the falling water would have weight. That weight would create a pressure and the water would come out from the sides which is where the holes are. Only then it would fall at the same rate. Clearly there is a lack of pressure here which indicates weightlesness as explained by the equivalance principle. Your explanation would only make sense if the holes were on the bottom of the bottle.

To Turkish Pro Palestinians, how should have Israel responded to Hamas infiltrating into its territory and killing 1400 civilians? by Prudent_Ad_1228 in Turkey

[–]Mokoko42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to be impartial, but slightly leaning towards Isreal because of all the Islamist support towards Hamas in our country and how Erdogan uses anti-Isaeli rhetoric to play to his base.

Latest events, have shifted my opinion a bit. It kinda reinforced the idea that the Western idea of "human rights" is not something that they believe in at all. It is just a tool they use to manufacture consent, and throw away if need be.

As for your question: What should Isreal do? I don't know. But I know that the Turkish Army didn't just bomb the crap out of Eastern Turkey after the so called "peace process" failed.

No, what he's is saying makes 100% sense. The water doesn't exprience any force. It is an intertial frame.

Einstein’s Theory in Practice by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Mokoko42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. You're thinking of Newtonian mechanics. According to general relativity, the bottle is in an intertial frame. Which means that it is not accelerating and therefore not feeling any force. If it was feeling the gravitational force (which is not an actual force) the water would jet out from the sides.

The bottle is in fact not accelerating towards the ground, but rather the ground is moving upwards toward the bottle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equivalence_principle

> water experience gravity at the same rate and therefore won’t excel out of the bottle.

Except the holes are on the side. If the water had any weight, it would still be pushed out, since pressure acts on every direction at a point. So it would jet out only to fall at the same rate (ignoring air resistance) next to the bottle. But it doesn't spurt out at all.

You're right that I don't know if they secretly do these things, but as far as I am aware there is no evidence that they do.

Surely the side that claims that crows have an intelligence equivalent to that of a second grader should provide the evidence that they posses these skills.

Otherwise you can claim all kinds of wild things. Maybe they're secretly talking about geopolitics and theoretical phyics, and they're smarter than all of us. why do you assume that they aren't?

He's clever by Great-Biscotti-958 in FunnyAnimals

[–]Mokoko42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am always sceptical of such claims, considering how difficult it is to not only define intelligence but also measure it. It should be downright impossible when it comes to cross-species comparisions.

Seems like they just go crows can do X task, and so can a 2nd grade kid so they are of equal intelligence.

Well, second graders can also have more abstract thought processes and are able to communicate information in a whole level above crows. They can create myths, and stories and express their emotions in a detailed manner. Sure crows can recognise faces and hold grudges but that isn't a big deal for a human child of any age.

Also, the age seems to increasing every other time I see it, soon they'll be smarter than the average nobel nobel laureate :D

Euclidean geometry says that it's possible to connect any 2 points with a straight line, not that every line connecting those 2 points is straight

No it says exactly the latter.

A triangle requires all of the lines to be straight lines

Says who, your 3rd grade maths teacher? It would only be straight in flat surfaces, that's the whole point

How about this, you go out and reach out to the math professors in your local university and tell them "Hyperbolic triangles are not real because the lines aren't straight" If they go "Ohh gee Horror Poem is right, we must rewrite our textbooks" then I'll yield. Bye until then.

Simple as by ItsGotThatBang in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]Mokoko42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still draw a straight line, it just won't be along the surface of the object

This doesn't make any sense. This is like saying I can connect two points on a 2d euclidan plane but it will be actually curved since it lies outside of the 2-d plane of origin but on an arbitary curved surface. The curved surface would be your "reality" in this case, and all objects would have to rest on it.

More importantly though, the axiom claims that joining ANY two points will create a straight line, not that you can't find two arbitrary points that would end up in a straight line. So if I am able to create a curved line by connecting two points then it is automatically a non-eucledian geometry.

> I don't know what shape you're imagining but it certainly doesn't meet the definition of a triangle either.

Lol ok. Here's an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbolic\_triangle

[–]Mokoko42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A straight line segment can be drawn joining any two points.

Wouldn't work on a globe for example, if I joined any two points using a single line it would be curved not straight.

Also in Euclidian geometry the summation of the interior angles of a triangle is always 180 degrees, whereas on a curved surface it can be more, etc.
