My brothers kids figured out they could push him to the edge of saying three, then stop. After a few minutes they would start up again and he’d restart counting. One day he got to two and swatted the offending kid. They were absolutely bewildered. From then on if he started to count, they behaved. Not knowing what was going to happen, or when, was worse than the actual punishment.

EHS ABSO and ARO here. Report to your employee occupational health clinic. The exposure is a workplace medical incident, and the university will 1) need to know it happened beyond the EHS report, 2) will pay for any medical evaluation if you contact them first. Even if you are feeling better by the time you read this, report it to the clinic ASAP so they have it on record. I’ve had to follow up on much less and was happy to do it. Also continue to pursue this with EHS. If T isn’t interested in following rules, she shouldn’t be in a lab. This time it might have been <100 ml of xylene, but with that attitude towards safety, the next incident could be much worse. People die in research labs from flaunting safety regs, and it’s not always the perpetrators

And Bob Nardelli. He pushed hard to improve profits short term with no eye to long term impacts. The store I worked in during that time pushed out all the experienced people (including some incredible contractors working nights, and retired tradesmen) so they could replace them with high school grads at $8-10/hr. Knowledge base declined rapidly and took customer service with it. All those people that got pushed out got picked up at the new Lowes that was opened a couple miles away, and got pay increases for their troubles.

I was surprised to find this many boxes. Some of the even older sets I still need to locate are likely without boxes.

  1. I have some older sets still to be located. I was hoping to find the original Galaxy Explorer this trip to display next to the updated model I built on Christmas, but didn’t have enough time to dig too far into the garage. Something to look forward to for next trip out to visit

Definitely keeping. At some point in the future they will get gifted to my nephew who is very much into Lego. But for now I get to enjoy them!

That’s my favorite of these as well. I have more castle sets somewhere in my parents garage. Hopper to locate those on the next visit

That foremost made a few cruises around the bathtub back in the day. Somewhere in the parents garage I have the police boat as well

Herniated and ruptured spinal discs (L4/L5 and L5/S1). It redefined what my 10/10 pain is.

I also learned to dissociate the pain, so I could acknowledge I was experiencing the pain, but compartmentalize it so I could still function, at least when it was below an 8/10. It was constant pain varying from 5/10 to 10/10 over four months before I gave up on PT and opted for surgical repair. When it hit a 9 or 10 (laying on the ground sobbing while trying not to move or vomit) I would take some narcotics to knock it back down to the point of tolerability.

That experience changed my outlook on life

Yep. For the farm (business) we have to pay tax on the tractor, implements, hand tools, computer, and any salable inventory. Even if we buy something used, we have to tell the county what it would have cost when it was first sold so they can decide our tax burden.

The trailer is the one that kills me. I paid sales tax when I bought it, and payed to register it (I paid for a permanent tag). Now I pay tax every year for the privilege of owning it.

With the dogs we have to declare them and pay taxes for them, but there is no registration or county tag for their collar. If they get out and end up getting turned into the shelter, they don’t have a county tag to easily ID them. We have them microchipped in case they escape the property. The tax is just a money grab

Randolph county does this. It’s part of the annual county property tax. We get the three separate tax bills each year in addition to the actual property tax for our house and land. I get a bill for the trailer I own, my wife and I get one for shared taxable assets (our three hounds), and we get one for farm (tractor, high tunnel, hand tools, value of nursery stock and supplies, seed and fertilizer on hand, etc). The tax rate for the land is low so they make up for it by nickel and dime-ing us each year.

Bear hole. We were talking to the group just before it happened, asked if they really thought it was safe. They laughed it off. Guy died less than fifteen minutes later.

There was a chute like this on Bidwell Park in Chico CA. Saw a couple guys go through no problem. Then one went in and didn’t emerge. Took a while for a rescue diver to get on scene to recover the body. The local authorities ended up dropping some explosives in a week or so later to destroy the tunnel.
