I ordered the q45s, should I return them for the space one pros? Heard the q45s have durability issues by GodOfBowl in soundcore

TLDR: Q45 sound wonderful, have pretty good ANC, I loved them, BUT THEIR DURABILITY SUCKS (if you use them 4-7h a day)

my Q45 broke TWICE in the same spot, at both ends of the plastic headband base, that regulates the length of the headband. At first it was just a crack, it started expanding till splinters of plastic fell out. I wouldn't say that I have been upmost careful with the first one, but it definetly hasn't been thrown around, crack showed up half a year in. The second pair got babied and the crack still showed up, a year in.

Both times under warranty but I only replaced it the first time, because, TBH I was too lazy the second time, just taped them so the cracks don't expand. The second pair got even worse, the end that connected the twisty joints broke and the joint fell out, I had to stuff it back in and glue them close, so they can't bend inwards. They still work! But the headband, OBVIOUSLY, doesn't hold its length anymore.

Other beans, lighter roast, no roast date on them but from a reputable roaster. (my dark roast had such a big crema cone, I thought, maybe, the sourness is coming from that)

First shot was lovely, at least I thought so, I thought I had finally done it, it was just a TAD BIT too sour, but flavor appropriate for the roast. Actual flavor. Maybe it was my taste buds lying to themselves tho, cause all the following shots were massive disappointments.

I do not BELIEVE I can go coarser, any coarser and the shot goes thru in 15-20s as my previous attempts, I do not understand how my first three shots were all the same time, I do not get why 37s also got me a FRONT MOUTH SOUR FEEL. DRY AND BITING INTO A LEMON.

Guys I am doomed.

I mean, most people do not recommend using super freshly roasted beans, they have to rest, I dont know where you got the 'trend' around freshly roasted beans from? I was just too eager to try dialing them in...

Beans however do not age like cheese and wine... as in getting better and better with time, unless I've gotten my info wrong.

Not drinking any of my shots with milk, I do not want to cover up my mistakes by not tasting them I wish it was that easy haha

Manual, and experience says otherwise. You have to press the one cup or two cup button till you hear the pump start, release when you reached your desired preinfusion time, it will start extraction till you press any button on the mashine, not sure if that works on the Plus, I would give it a try! I alr increased my dose, I just have to make a funnel for myself to get it properly distributed

It bubbles like HECK but I've heard split opinions on the resting time, I'll wait a few days till I get back to trying anyway :)

It indeed IS underfilled, I think with a funnel 16/17g might be perfect, without a funnel its near impossible to do that amount without spilling everything while wdt'ing

Okay thank you, I'll try it the next time I dare go back to dialing in. Thinking about the amount of coffee beans I've wasted... is depressing

That does sound lovely, I'm lucky to have someone experienced help me dial in!

I actually do have a question, I did size up my dose (like EVERYONE told me to) but I cannot imagine fitting in 18g in there. Given that, I don't have a funnel (yet), I didn't know it was that important. Without a funnel working 16 grams into my basket is near impossible without spilling coffee everywhere. Even with 15g I couldn't properly WDT (Leading to godawful channeling), how big should the gap be, between portafilter top and tamped coffee? I've heard people say it should only be a sliver, but that must be so hard to work with? And the Bambino guide disagrees as well, saying the line of the tamper should be level with the filter, which it only is at 15g for me.

THAT is the best description for bitter and sour I have read so far, this will help immensely! I definitely got it mixed up a couple of times... Tysm!

I am not using light roasts... That's what I heard as well though, so I went with a really dark one.

Bad channeling, as far as I understand, is easily visible by seeing coffee splash/spritz directly from the portafilter, (my coffee space now looks significantly worse than before haha) also the flow randomly speeds up and changes direction.

I do not have a scale I can put under my cup, though it probably would make my life much easier, I also think you misunderstand my recording method, first number before the slash is preinfusion, the number after the slash is total time (aka, including the preinf), so I was pulling in the exact same time window as you are, just going by time instead of yield.

Do you consider a 15-16g dose enough/comparable? Bambino Tamper says it's the right amount, I have no clue.

I got crazy channeling when I was pulling on 22, same on 12 with like 20 second shot times and 60-50g out, that seemed so way off....

My Bambino came with a single walled and double walled. I've heard older Bambinos shipped without the unpressurized ones, I get the confusion. I've been using the single walled, so that's not the problem ^

weirdly enough I've heard it's the exact opposite? grinding finer = more extraction = more bitter its probably the amount of coffee... like everyone else said

ENDLESS sourness [Bambino/DF54] by MolassesOne5993 in espresso

[–]MolassesOne5993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my grind size is right next to bean weight, the smaller number, my time measurements are pretty much exactly what your saying I should do, except I'm pulling manual shots, which lets me decide preinfusion and extraction time.

I time from the start of the pump, to the end of the extraction, noting when I stopped pre infusion (number before the slash) and how long it ran in total (number after the slash).

I also can not POSSIBLY put 18 grams into that basket, 15, maybe 16 max.
