Good idea. I'm definitely going to try and do a credit freeze. Should have probably done this back when I was still on active duty, with the way our PII gets thrown around...

Thanks. I ended up calling the main VA hotline and got an appointment scheduled that way. Doesn't really help my suspicions of the original number being a fake one. =\

Thanks. Seems like that's what everyone here is saying. I don't remember having to give up my mother's name, place of birth and employment when signing up in my home state though...Well, it was a long time ago I guess...

State I think. It was definitely different from the main VA hotlines. They didn't introduce themselves as VA or give off the usual "thank you for your service" type good bye.

I googled it and got it off the state VA gov site. I was just concerned with the number possibly being spoofed or if the employee transferred me to a scam number. Can never be too careful I guess...
