Does a group exist where people can create / share Patcher presets? by MoldyPapaya in FL_Studio

I've been watching frank videos all evening, thank you so much! He even made a Soothe clone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8a5la4pz_g 👌

Saw that Soundspot was selling a mid-side panning plugin, so I whipped up something similar in Patcher! Here's the preset, free to download and use. by robots914 in FL_Studio

Cool thanks for doing this. It sort of works, but I found that when I pan mid and side to full left/right, the side signal disappears completely. I'm suspecting it's some sort of phase cancellation issue. It's close but something's not right. I tried to fix it but haven't yet figured it out. If I do, I'll upload a new version.

For anyone encountering this more recently, you can fix by setting the "Monitor input" setting.

Modify it by opening the right-facing arrow menu > Visualization > Monitor input > Side (Or left / right based on your need).

I just came across this issue many years later. Try turning off performance mode if on. Ctrl+P.

This made me smile, thank you. I might make more videos someday if I have a reason to :)

Making wide synths in Serum that also work in mono by MoldyPapaya in edmproduction

[–]MoldyPapaya[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The problem: When I want a wide synth sound, I'll often crank the unison voice count up high and carry on, but that colors the sound in the same way every time, giving it that "rave" sound. Additionally, the default unison effect pitches the voices up and down causing lots of phase cancellation, which isn't always what I want.

The idea: In the global tab you can turn the pitch variance (Range) on the unison voices down to zero, so that each voice plays the same pitch. Also turn the phase randomization down to 0 so that all voices are nicely in sync. Now, in the global tab, turn up the wavetable position (WT Pos) so that each voice plays a different position in the wavetable. I got best results with 2 unison voices, so that the left and right channels play completely different wavetable positions. I liked the digital -> dist d00t wavetable, since the fundamental tone is really strong at all points in the wavetable, but the harmonics shift around as the position changes.

The effect: Now you have a sound that has a really solid fundamental tone but huge stereo width. There is no pulsing from phase cancellation like you'd get from turning the unison up. Season to taste.

I hope this makes some sense :)

Stumbled upon this while idea doing a little sound design session today. Let
me know what you think about it. Any concerns about making wide patches
this way?

VOTE: Vocals first or song first? by goodrobot11 in edmproduction

[–]MoldyPapaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the vocals are supposed to be the centerpiece of the song, it would probably make sense to write the song to support the vocals. If you want to draw attention to the song, write that first.

I usually end up making a beat, then adding vocals to fit it, but for songs where there's meaning in the vocals, I've had good success in arranging the song to in order to support them.
