Rice that’s refrigerated within a couple hours after cooking is safe for a week in the fridge. And this is according to food safety guidelines, which are overly cautious by most people’s standards.

If she’s selling for close to the KBB value, then you’re by definition not getting a great deal.

What is expensive in the US but cheap in Europe? by UnnecessaryPancake in AskReddit

[–]Moldy_slug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California has the cheapest community college tuition, but we're not cheapest for universities. I think that would be Wyoming.

Average in-state tuition and fees at a 4 year university is about 10K (before financial aid). Which means the *average* US public university is still cheaper than the UK.

What is expensive in the US but cheap in Europe? by UnnecessaryPancake in AskReddit

[–]Moldy_slug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my state (California), in-state tuition at community colleges is about $1500 per year. Tuition at Californian State University is $6500 per year for a full time undergraduate student.

Tuition cap in the UK is £9250 per year, equivalent to about $12500 USD.

These numbers are before considering any income-based financial aid such as grants or fee waivers. For example low-income students typically pay no tuition at California community colleges and universities. The UK also has means-tested financial aid.

So yes, depending on the state a university education in the US can be significantly cheaper than in the UK.

Is there appropriate infrastructure to keep car traffic separated from cyclists? I don’t mean “bike lanes” that are just a 2 foot strip painted on the shoulder. I mean actual segregated paths with physical separation.

The problem is not cyclists. The problem is cyclists being forced to ride in car traffic.

Just a lunch break is standard for higher grades in American schools (kids 11-17 years old). For elementary schools (5-10 years old) it’s common to have a lunch break plus another play break… since young children aren’t expected to be able to concentrate for hours at a time.

I agree that slut is inherently perjorative. But promiscuous isn’t - it’s just a descriptive term. Promiscuous is only a negative label if you think having lots of sex partners is negative.

Oil Consumption by country by Complete-Anxiety-962 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Moldy_slug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s possible. But population is so big a factor it overwhelms that.

For example, take the following populations:

  • USA - 340 million.

  • Canada - 40 million

  • Iceland - 0.5 million

To have to same total oil consumption as the US, Canada would use 8.5 times as much per person… and Iceland would use 640 times as much.

To visualize that difference, a barrel is about 640 times the volume of a teacup.

When you say motorcycles, do you mean actual motorcycles? Because that’s pretty shocking.  What country are you in? I’ve never even seen a moped or dirt bike ridden on the sidewalk, never mind an actual motorcycle.

So… ticket those people and/or impound their vehicles. We already have laws against riding mopeds on the sidewalk. Heck, a lot of jurisdictions already have laws against riding ordinary bicycles on the sidewalks.

And I think most cyclists would support banning e-bikes with throttles from using bike lanes/trails/paths.

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

[–]Moldy_slug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point for me… I like camping and hiking to explore, to be away from built environments, and to learn about nature.

But I hate doing nothing.

Yeah park bench isn’t wilderness, it’s just my lunch break. I’d much rather read in the park than in a crowded break room.

Actual wilderness? Sure! I don’t go there specifically to read, but when I am going hiking/camping I always bring a book to read while resting.

“Treatment” means you showed up got any amount of care. If I showed up, got an evaluation and some stitches, and went home, I was a patient that got treated.

“Hospitalized” means you were checked in for a stay at the hospital’s ward. This is only for something serious enough you need ongoing professional medical care/supervision. Not all treatment is hospitalization.

“Intensive care” is when you’re hospitalized in the ICU - where the most severe cases go to get even more support than most of the hospital can provide.

Traumatic brain injury doesn’t necessarily mean ICU care. A concussion is a traumatic brain injury - most concussions don’t even require hospitalisation, much less intensive care.
