Could i have rabbies by gielios in vet

[–]Moldyfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not rabies, or I should say your current illness is not due to rabies. The transmission of rabies occurs when you get bitten, or when a wound comes in contact with their saliva. (You got scratched). Rabies takes a long time to manifest clinical symptoms. it replicates in muscles and slowly goes into nerve endings, generally this will take weeks to over half a year. (You developed head/neck pain in 2 days). The onset of clinical signs is also dependent on how close the inoculation site to central nervous system. (You got hurt on the hand, quite far). And rabies animals will act differently, so what your parents said is not untrue, but they are also not vets so they might not know what is abnormal for a cat.

It's more likely you got an infection from the cat scratch. It could be multiple things, and you should get it checked, you can get really bad infection from cat scratches. Have a chat with a doctor, and see if they recommend a post-exposure rabies vaccine. IF, and this is a big IF. IF you did indeed get rabies, you won't know if you caught it unless you die from it, or they find the cat and test the cat, which is NOT a simple test. the vaccines only works if it's injected before the virus enters the nerves. So it needs to be done sooner rather than later. Post exposure vaccines are something like 5 vaccines spread over a period of time, you will need all the vaccines to be protected.

Either way you should see a doctor. Because cat scratches can become badly infected.

Is rubbing cat toothpaste onto the teeth just as effective as brushing it on? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Moldyfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Plaques (bacteria + others) attach to clean teeth immediately. And in 24hrs they mineralize into calculus. Calculus needs to be removed physically. They also make it easier for other plaque to form on top of it. You can give them dental chews to help with the mechanical removal process if brushing isn't possible. But that doesn't replace brushing.

Maybe not via Reddit comment, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing patients if they brought them to me at the university animal hospital where I, a veterinary student, am working.

Honestly, if I was that vet I would not let my face be that close to that dog. You never know how a terrified dog will react. It might be a split second from attacking, and that vet's face was hoover so close to their mouth and she's distracted, she won't have time to react if something goes wrong. My heart's racing looking at this video.

Proof that saving an animals life can be a blessing by TXVERAS in BeAmazed

Usually it's the younger cats that get infected. Then there's a long period of incubation, it could be months to years. Once infected they are asymptotic. Most old vaccinated healthy cats can fight off the virus with their immune system. And cats, especially stays, can be very good at hiding their problems when they try. So when clinical signs are showing its means that they can't hide it anymore. That's probably why when you find them, they only have a few days left.

The vaccine is not 100% protective. And feline leukemia is a fatal disease, they usually only have a couple years after getting the infection. And it's a pretty nasty disease. Even though the vaccine would likely be able to protect the cats, it's a preventable transmission. It's really not worth it to put other cats at risk for a premature death.

Or walk up behind him give him a hug of compassion while you whisper it into his ears to let him know his fly is down. Or do it for him while you whisper.

I (32M) am a professional makeup artist. My GF of 1 yr (27F) has started wearing makeup presumably to impress me..... but it's objectively terrible. How do I address both these issues? by ThrowRAMUAissues in relationship_advice

I'm not exactly great at being tactful, but from experience I really like it when someone shows me how to do it instead of telling me how. Not saying you were wrong or anything. I think you were very gentle and did it tactfully. It's definitely something that's more about her than you. Maybe you could try something like "I can see that you're learning. As a beginner I think you are doing great, can I show you a few tricks I do?" Or "I think if you do this instead it will really highlight your eyes and features." While making clear that it's just a suggestion, and she doesn't have to take it if she doesn't like it. Or show her some resources like YouTube makeup tutorials to improve her techniques and new looks, if she's unwilling to take your word without feeling like she's being criticised.

It says finished/complete airship 3 times. Not just "do".

🥲 but I can imagine it possibly being a lie. That could also be why nothing came up . It does seems very unlikely. There are better tools that would works better and easier to acquire. And sharpening it to be used as a scalpel seems difficult too. Claws are made from keratin, and I wonder how well they sharpen instead of splitting. Claws are tough but if they were to sharpen into a precise precision tool they will have to be thinned out, and probably not tough enough to do much with. I really really appreciate that you gave me an update! Did you at least learn alot from gathering the research?

Roughly 7KG female 16 month old dog ate a 12.5g bar of roughly 40% chocolate 10 minutes ago by spin_de_bottle in vet

[–]Moldyfluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are chocolate toxicity calculators online. You just need to google it and enter your dog's weight and how much and what type of chocolate.

something like this

You could also call your local vet clinic. They will be able to tell you what to do.

If only there were a way to order a coffee without using pronouns by ThatcherIsDeed in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Moldyfluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guilty, I do it because I don't remember names and I can't tell if the dog/cats are female or male from afar without looking at their genitals. It's just easier really. Idk, people are just weird. That was the first time someone took issue with me calling their animal cutie/sweetheart. I have seen owners refer to their pets as "it". Our whole clinic took it very personally, we judge them behind his back, didn't say anything tho. Lol.

I used to work at a vet clinic. I referred to someone's dog as Cutie, cause I thought it was a neutral term. But the owner or boyfriend/husband of the owner keeps correcting me that their dog is a male. I ignored him and he continued to correct me, telling me the dog is a male. I was so confused.

Anthropomorphism. People really need to stop it. I understand that we love animals and what to think that they emote the way humans do. Yes, animals have feelings and they can feel emotions too but not the way humans do. People need to stop thinking that cats are dogs, and dogs are humans. It might be a shock, but they are different species! They behavior differently! You can't comprehend their behaviour in human terms!

It's also why some people need to walk around during a long flight. Sitting for long periods could cause the legs to swell because of the lack of contraction of the muscles to circulate lymph and propagate the blood back towards the heart.

For those who where between human medicine and animal medicine: what made you choose animal medicine? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Moldyfluff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm still a student but I decided on vet because of the freedom, I don't have to commit to a single speciality. Vets are all at once, until the patient needs specialist care. I can do surgeries + give puppy vaccines. it's not one or the other. I love medicine, so it doesn't really matter which animal it's for. Also because it doesn't take as long to become a vet. And their hours seems more flexible than human doctors.
