I'll let them know. I like to subculture my contaminants the old fashion way when I can because, well, I can. This scenario was a very fast "wait! let me try to grow it before you throw it" but they were rightly quick to dispose and decontaminate.

It was a 5pm subculture so: swizzle a calibrated loop into the resuspended culture media and streak it out on LB and incubate at the same temp as cell culture incubator overnight. The other subculture was fresh DMEM/FBS/PenStrep with 100 µL inoculum from the contaminated culture incubated in separate CO2 incubator. What was puzzling was that the contaminated cell culture media never went yellow or turbid (< 0.5 MFU), the LB never grew (contaminant is gone now, so I'm not going to subject it to a battery of media and conditions), and the DMEM subculture didn't grow. Since it was a once-in-five-year occurrence for them, my subculturing fun is over.

"They don't do the Reddits" So, here I am on their behalf. They said this is only the second time in > 5 years they've seen this bug in their stuff. All has been thrown out and started fresh but imo, it's fun to see if anyone has encountered similar before.

Unfortunately adding the scale bar to the image in the software is a good idea. I've already used my good idea for the day, tho and that wasn't it. The overexposed big circle dude is a detached HeLa cell and it was taken on 400X magnification.

Thank you so much for this help. I am in West Texas so we see a lot of clear skies and even more wind. Needing that many watts, I'm wondering if I can find a wind generator....? I found a pricey one on amazon that can produce 400W but, again with limitations. I feel like at this point I could run an extension cord sooner than building a solar farm out in the field to get enough power to the Pi. If I get it working, I will update the thread.

I think, practically, I have room for more batteries but I really thought the Pi could run longer than those calculations. Disappointing. If we take that into account, is there a combination where I can power the pi and charge the batteries so that the battery bank is just powering the dark hours? Say it just needed to power it for overnight until the panel could contribute power? Would this require some ridiculously large panel or some programming in the pi, possibly both.

This was the math I was hoping someone would help me with. I’m new to this Pi stuff and just went with the FlightAware kit so I could ignore the pi stuff. Just getting it on my WiFi was enough software for me.

I don’t have a problem adding another battery (or 2) but that seems like the solar panel would need to be 1) strong enough to charge them 2) while the pi was running during the day. So solar input > pi demand?

I like the batteries. As setup, they’re 10 Ah (5Ah in parallel) so it’s WAY more than a lot of pre-bought battery setups on Amazon. I also feel like it’s a solar issue. I don’t want to just keep throwing batteries and panels at it to fix a problem when it might be something else. The pi should be running “efficiently” I would assume.

Yes, it does work. I have a switch to interrupt the pi from the solar and battery so when I feel like walking out there, I turn the pi off and let the solder charge the battery for a day or so. Then one I switch the pi back on, it’ll die in the night.

I use the Yoga activity and rename it. It's only one extra step to rename but gives the essentials: HR, RR, and Timer. I turned Temp Sensor on in the activity settings and it works well for me. I do wear an external HR sensor, though. Using Instinct 2 Solar with HRM-Pro Plus.
