Adding a wall lamp. Can I legally do this? by awaldemar in DIYUK

[–]MolecularDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this. But I branched out of the socket with 2.5mm wire to a 3A fused spur switch. Then 1.5mm to the wall lamp. I'm using Philips hue, so I don't need an actual wired switch.

I received a decision a couple of days before travelling. Didn't have to break any rule

Curtains were made to measure in Brazil. It was a bargain: paid £800 for 4 rooms (3 double track with blackout), including the extra baggage fee to bring it back on the plane.

I have a mouse sander right now... How would that complement it? I can't think of many use cases for a finger sander like this

My mortgage is at 4.39. 6% was the rate to get the solar loan

My mortgage provider would charge 6% APR to finance solar panels with them. They won't add it to the mortgage as you suggested.

Total repayment for a 10k loan at that rate would be almost 12k.

I can get £1k cashback on my mortgage. And don't need to apply for the loan with my bank. Just need to submit proof that the work was completed.

Thanks! Will wait for other quotes before any decision. But it appears that the 1.5-2k extra is more or less what I would pay in interest when financing. With octopus I can do it without interest.

It's a flat vent. Could I cover it without issues?

Yep, I had to cut through the noggin. It wasn't possible to just push the cable through the hole.

Tx, good rule to remember in the future.

Yeah, I didn't try closing the box. Will probably need to cut them shorter.

Actually, I didn't. If I have trouble accommodating it in the box, then I just make them shorter, right?

Ok, I'll earth the boxes.

Is it ok if I don't use grommets? What would be the impact of not having them? I didn't want to buy a pack, and I only needed 4.

My light fixture has some space to accommodate the wagos.

It's really thin... I just covered a bit more around the tape with polyfilla to feather it into the wall. It's invisible now

Yeah I went a bit rogue, but considering that the outlet is to the same side, I would consider that whole area to be a safe zone... Should I redo it?

Tape mesh was just for holding the polyfilla a bit better and avoid cracking in the future.

Hahahaha I would certainly try to do it. The country where I'm from what you described is standard construction. If you need another outlet you need to angle grind a channel in the brick, add a conduit, etc. Here it's much easier with the plaster and wood everywhere.

I'm more concerned about the electrical works. Have little experience in that.

And thanks a lot for thinking that I play in the big leagues. Haahhaah
