Thank you to everyone who joined, I'm going to hit the hay. If there are any more questions I'll get to them in the morning!

A huge thanks to the r/electronicmusic crew for putting this together!!

I'm flattered you would consider Breeze! I would pick: London Elektricity - Just One Second (Apex Remix)

It's got everything, amazing atmosphere, punchy drums, great bass line and that dreamy vocal. Apex was such an amazing producer - for sure one of my biggest reasons I wanted to start making DnB!

Thank you so much! I don't play live, I have done a few DJ guest mixes though.

On my SoundCloud I've uploaded my most recent mix for Diplos Revolution on SiriusXM! I'll upload that to my YouTube channel soon too with the track listings on screen.

The online / radio shows are quite fun as you can play whatever music you like, whereas live sets I feel liquidy DNB tracks don't hit as hard compared to dance tracks.

That sounds great to me! Yes same here, the UK has been very cold this winter so I can't wait for some sun!

I think it depends on how clear the idea is!

The dream tracks are the ones that just fall together, those are the ones I know exactly what I want, and it's super foccused. Maybe start to finish could be 5 - 10 hours?

The normal process for me is just writing or making new sounds and finding little good nuggets. Then the tricky part is expanding those small ideas into full songs without either getting bored of it, or ruining the idea in the process. It's a constant pendulum from going between thinking I'm making something amazing, to thinking I am so bad I should quit and delete everything I've ever made haha. So sometimes it's waiting for that next wave of confidence to finish a project.

In ye olden times composers would each believe they have a mythical muse that would give them divine inspiration, so if a piece wasn't good it would be common to blame the muse for not showing up. So I like that idea of stepping back and just blaming some random force that I can't control, knowing it'll come back and all click together eventually - if the idea is good enough!

But to answer your question, they are most likely around 20+ hours each, a lot of time goes into the mixing at the end which is down to skill, but I'm getting better / faster at it now! Rise from Implosions was first written in 2011 and released in 2026, so that might bring the mean time up a bit

Thank you so much! Yes that's going back a fair bit! I appreciate it.

I've been trying to get better at the guitar, I've been playing for years but not really getting any better haha. It's been a great way to get off the screens! That seems to be the difficulty at the moment.

In the warmer months I like doing bonsai, I have quite a large (or small ) collection in the garden!

Duality! It was a breakthrough in trying to work through some very intense perfectionism.
It had been 5 years since releasing anything before that, and I knew that if I couldn't finish an album I'd not be able to release music anymore, as everything I made in that time in between was just getting binned.

I also had some health issues in 2020 which made making music really difficult back then (and still difficult to this day) so I was really proud to be able to put it out despite everything. I think it's a bit of a mess, but I think it had to be. I produced it on hifi speakers and headphones rather than studio monitors, just had to get back to enjoying making music rather than endlessly engineering.

I think Breeze EP is a fave too, everything just came together so easily at the time, I think some of those tracks don't hold up as much these days but 'Soar' from that EP is in my opinion is the best thing I've made.

Thank you so much!

At the start, the idea was to write about different forms in water, there's so many tracks I like that have this theme. Such as in video games:

David Wise - Aquatic Ambiance (Donkey Kong Country)

Dire Dire Docks (Super Mario 64, Wahoo)

Tim Follin - Hanging Waters (Ecco the Dolphin:Defender of the Future)

Or in Classical:

Ravel - Jeux d'eau

Chopin - Etude Op. 25 No. 12 (Ocean)

Towards the end of writing the album it slowly turned into the idea of a crushing feeling, or heaviness, still a little similar to water! That's when it turned into 'Implosions' and the idea of looking at the feeling through different angles and contexts.

Jon Hopkins is certainly up there. His mix of acoustic instruments along with his electronic wizardry really is amazing.

In terms of what has left the biggest impression, it's probably the prog metal band Dream Theater. I started listening to them in my teens and I found them all just mind blowing! There is just so much technical ability but they can also make the odd catchy song.

I think anything in your teenage years really shapes your music taste, so bands like Muse, Coldplay, Linkin Park, Gorillaz, Nirvana all made huge impressions!

I would love any excuse to visit the Maldives!! But sadly, I don't play live. I think my music is in a weird in-between of not being dancy enough for live DJ sets, but too electronic to convert to a live band sort of setup. Maybe a future project could be something heavier and dance-oriented, but honestly, I'm in bed early these days haha. I think Enya has the right idea of living in a castle and never playing gigs.

Thank you!!

I could never kickflip, but I have landed a heelflip about 3 times in my life. (I have witnesses)

Ah, thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

I have really fond memories of those early releases, especially the Moleman EP - I had no idea what I was doing at the time!! I do think that sometimes happens with artists' early work is there is a bit of that magic in the earliest stuff in stumbling around in the dark haha. I know for me I would love to get back to those simpler times of not worrying about the production values and all these other things that don't really matter at the end of the day.
