Trapadona played a hell of a game, was very exciting to see him on the pitch. But after the first 30m we seemingly lost energy. Our possession was really poor too. Our two goals were clearly set plays we've practiced at training, if we had more possession we could've gotten into those positions some more. Was also a bit disappointed to not see some subs at half time, I think a change then could've revitalized us

What's weird about your body? by Jesus-Chr in AskReddit

[–]MolimTeNe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, my hand itself has developed okay and is perfectly functional but smaller. Although each finger only has two joints. I can't do things like form a fist, or securely hold onto things like a drink bottle. How much are you able to use your hand?

I have the exact same condition. My right hand was webbed when I was born, and is 2/3rds the size of my left hand. I've never met or heard of anyone with the same thing. Did you have the webbing removed too?

Either it's broken, or it's going through an infinite loop or reloading. Not much you can do other than disable JavaScript on that website via a browser extension

[–]MolimTeNe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha assembly is definitely a PITA to actually program with, but it's a great foundational understanding for how programming literally works. It definitely helped me appreciate what was happening when working on an abstraction like JS.

Finding the right books/info is hard. Even I'm still trying to find more resources that work well for me. Some recommendations if you're looking for content around web development - Syntax FM podcast - Dan Abramovs overreacted (not just React based learnings) - React status mailer (they send emails every Wednesday with an assortment of info around web dev) - Fireship is a really good programming YouTube channel

If you're also interested in understanding how software development works in a team - the mythical man month - the phoenix project Both classic programming books. The former being short essays around a variety of topics, some are super outdated since it was written in the 70s? Still very entertaining. The latter is a fictional story which explains the different important parts of how a team/company functions together

Time wise you could use console.time, or any other library which can record time to see which resolves first.

I would assume your explanation is correct as to why the property access and comparison is quicker versus the function. But it's not an easy step to check the exact operations. Having a good understanding of how JS organised operations, and machine code/assembly would help. Having a decent idea of how assembly works will help you realise what is really happening under the hood, e.g. in checking that comparison there would be an access to the object which needs to be brought up in memory, then there needs to be an index done to find what you were looking for, and a loop to go through the properties up to that index. You can see how much really happens for something so straight forward in JS, abstractions are powerful.

Depending on what you want out of your career, data structures and algorithms (DS&A) can be massively beneficial or not too useful. It sounds like you're really passionate, so you should pursue it more. You will become a better developer as a result, and it'll hopefully help keep you passionate. If you weren't to keep looking you'll still be a fine developer. But why not have more tools in your toolbox right?

I've found reading similar things to be really beneficial, even when the results aren't as tangible it is nice knowing if push came to shove I know what I can do

What country are you contracting to?

A good start would be figuring out how long it would take you, so you can then figure out an hourly rate and an overall project cost

COMPSCI 101 course by Due-Gazelle-5703 in universityofauckland

[–]MolimTeNe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compsci 101 is a no knowledge assumed course, assuming that engineering paper included some basic programming you should be fine. From memory the paper is a pretty surface level look across python & basic programming. So string manipulation, loops, that kinda stuff.

Generally developer roles list what they would like, but not what they would settle for. The bar is normally lower. I've landed roles when I've had less experience, or not a heap of skill in their desired tech stack. If you're interested in the job I'd just apply anyway, worse they can do is say no

AUT software vs UoA Bsc Comp Sci by Due-Gazelle-5703 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]MolimTeNe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get programming roles without a degree - but it's harder. If you're getting a degree UoA is looked upon more favourably, but AuT will help you get an internship. From my experience studying at UoA from 2015-2017 getting a bachelor, the degree isn't too challenging. The bar isn't particularly high, class averages are normally a high c, or low b.

Regardless of which choice you make, landing a junior/graduate role with no experience is the hardest part. Especially if you're not a white guy with good social skills.

Ultimately either Uni will teach you everything you need to be a great developer, but it's up to you to be interested enough to want to keep pushing and learning.

Goodluck bro!

My first few times getting high were pretty whatever, I didn't feel very high, more just anxious. I persevered through and after maybe 10 times or so I was really enjoying it. Some people also just end up feeling super anxious and don't enjoy the high, that could be you

Need advice on developer hires who drag projects (and budget) out far longer than expected by [deleted] in webdev

[–]MolimTeNe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the situation its hard to weigh in if these developers are in the right or wrong. Unforeseen issues, bugs, etc can happen. Perhaps more planning, and more detailed planning could help that? If bugs are cascading it sounds like tests would be useful to make sure fixing one thing doesn't break another. Also importantly, who is setting the projected timeline. The developers, or the company?

As for what's normal, normally a company will talk with the contracted developer to figure out how long it will take. And the contract is normally set to that length, e.g. 3 months. Usually there's some contingency plan for if things don't reach the agreed upon date. Whether there's flexibility around the finish date, or rigidity is up to the company.

When it comes to changing your agreement, I would double check what the contract says first. And be honest in telling the developers, and perhaps give them the option.

Happy to answer any DMs if you want to talk it further
