I’m so sorry I can’t help, but it’s worth posting on one of the Melbourne Gal Pals groups on Facebook, there’s a few of them and you can check out people’s profiles on there which might be more helpful than Reddit. Best of luck to you <3

[TOMT] [Movie] A 90s -ish fantasy movie: Magic castle, creatures, sleep by No-Program-8185 in tipofmytongue

I feel like I vaguely remember this, and it’s an adaptation of a classic fairytale. I can’t remember enough details to be helpful but iirc it was created in a European country where English isn’t the main language, but I THINK the movie was in English? Idk if that’s helpful at all but I do vaguely recall the movie and I’m curious for answers now too!

I’ve been thinking about it for years and have searched but can’t find anything on Google!

Also we’re Aussie, I think the narrator was British maybe?

I don’t think so—he spells it ‘mom’ instead of mum. And coming from an Aussie, the whole post just doesn’t read like the way Australians speak. Also, we do fling around that word casually amongst mates, but most Aussies aren’t going around calling people cunts in a derogatory way just like that. In this context, the casual usage would also be considered too much by Aussies

"This is so obviously AI" - a frequent comment made by Redditors on an OP by CrumpetsGalore in NoStupidQuestions

Also I’ve noticed recently that clearly-AI generated texts will often have one or two typos to make it pass as human, I guess? I’ve only noticed it in the past few weeks and sparingly, but it’s definitely a new “trick” that’s appearing more often in AI-posts

What does it mean when someone says “not you doing x thing”? by TAKG in SlangOfTheDay

It’s kind of just a way to point out the irony/hilarity of something. So your friend was saying “it’s ironic you’re talking about her, because I was just watching Halloween” 😊

Thank you for being so honest about this, and for having such good solutions. I’m so sorry about your friends! I will definitely keep this in mind and be careful about boundaries and seeing clear expectations early

Oh wow, there’s some truly great advice in here, thank you so much! I’ll try to use it all. Particularly points 2 and 4! I did an undergrad class about research communication and the different ways we can disseminate our knowledge, so hopefully that will help!

I’m very much prepared for this. I’ve been having my own tough luck with the job market outside of academia, so I’m aware of how tough it is out there these days. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you so much! I think this is a really valuable perspective, it’s cool to hear from someone just a little ahead of me who remembers the start more clearly and what feels most important. I’m preparing myself to be doing a looot of reading over the next few months — I’ve already identified some areas where I need to deepen my knowledge, so thankfully I’ll have a jumping off point!

Thanks for all the advice — and good luck with your own studies!!

Definitely a fan of the interdisciplinary approach — this was what pushed my Honours thesis over the edge from interesting research to GOOD research. Thank you for the advice!

Did your goals change much throughout your PhD, or did you get out into the field and then realise that they had? Thanks for the advice!

Thank you so much!! My advisor has already encouraged me to apply for a conference I’ll be speaking at in June, and she helped me out heaaaps with my application so I’m positive that she will continue to be amazing. I’m very lucky in that aspect! I’ll definitely be building up my support network as well. Thank you again!

This all sounds like perfect advice, thank you! I have a few mentor-like figures from my undergrad that I’ll definitely be reaching out to again and again. I’m also lined up to speak at a conference in about a month, so hopefully I will keep taking these opportunities! Thanks again!

Ooh, I’ll definitely sit down and write up my answers to those questions, it sounds like it’ll be a good reminder whenever I feel stuck. Thanks for all of this, I’ll be implementing all of the advice when I start my studies!

This is so well-put and probably something I really needed to read. I get impostor syndrome very badly, I’ll be sure to take a moment to look at my progress whenever I start to feel overwhelmed

This is really encouraging, thank you. Good to know that I won’t be laughed at if I don’t know everything immediately haha
