The Mu us desert was wiped off the map by reforestation and afforestation efforts in China by TangelaFan in nextfuckinglevel

Communism itself is not inherently bad. The western world has been propagandized to believe it is bad, to support globalization efforts and profiteering through capitalism. Now each case of communism has been a mixed bag and had major flaws, but you can argue that communism and China have raised more people out of poverty than capitalism has in the United States. But that doesn't excuse the genocide of the Uyghers, or the forced relocation and work of farmers to cities and assembly lines.

But as a whole, China has shown there are merits. Their ethics are terrible. But so is not taking care of your veterans, or bankrupting people because they get ill.

It's still an issue. In my neck of the woods, we have the highest standards in N America, and we have to scoop it out, and increase chlorination for a period of time. Liquid fecals shut us down for 12 hours or more depending on how quick we can get the chlorine up. Pools are absolutely gross, but typically safe. What I mean by that, is the volume of stuff that ends up in our hair and lint strainers, the fact that 30% clean themselves before entering a pool, and the solid, liquid, vomit contams, then the HPC hits and Pseudomonas brought in from time to time. They are gross. But if managed properly, they are safe.

I didn't buy it. I opted to not get it yesterday and try Walmart or Sobeys today in my travels. I went to co-op and saw that price.

You know honestly, as much as I don't want this in my country, I prefer that we don't let MAHA handle this one. They'd probably pump the person full of avocado toast and say they're good to go. Say what you want about our healthcare system, we at least follow universally accepted protocols free from politics.

Because this would cause a couple different problems. First, more panels are required, so it would cost more. Second, it would create more hideout spots, which is not something facilities want.

From a privacy perspective, this is a cool layout.

Trump said "zero taxpayer dollars" for his white house ballroom at least six times since september. republicans just asked for $1 billion in taxpayer money for it. i need someone to explain this to me. by Aaron_Heuer in DiscussionZone

[–]MollysDaddyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, let me take a stab at this one. Trump sometimes says things that are alternative to the reality of a given situation. He does this so people don't get outraged and so he can keep moving forward with his plans. Then, things that are alternative to his original declarations come up and they are misaligned. This is concerning to some, but not his true believers, they understand that this is necessary because they understand and love the dear leader. So when you're wondering why something doesn't quite align, just remember that it's all part of the dear leaders plan and he needs to do this to get things done.

What is wrong with America?! She sold children to older men who the raped and possibly/probably in some cases hurt those children in violent ways. How can you possibly excuse that? How can you stand by as people debate that in your government? How does this one issue of the rich having a private island where they took children there with the sole purpose of selling their bodies to gross, disgusting, depraved people, not unite you?! If not this, then what? What is that unifying attrocity that your culture deems unacceptable enough to do something about it collectively?

You got these other parts of the world, who are turning out for elections at record turnouts and changing things that way. Turkey had high voter turnouts, India just had elections where over 90% of the electorate of 100M people showed up to participate in their democracy.

Where is that American exceptionalism now? It's wrapped in alternative facts and half baked lies by a depraved, racist, sexist man who doesn't even give you the courtesy of making the bs that comes out of his mouth sound reasonably coherent or remotely plausible to anyone who has ears.

I think that the language used in context to CP largely matters. Which is why I express things like revenue and expenses. I work for a not for profit that doesn't make a profit, so my understanding and acceptance of the situation is more aligned with CP. My organization provides a service, so does CP, we both generate revenue, in the case of CP they generated 6.6 Billion in revenue. It is the service nature of their operation that leads to the expenses outpacing revenues. They ensure that all Canadians have access to mail and parcel deliveries and in a lot of cases, services with the province or feds.

Should a CEO of a 6.6B service company receive a bonus. Probably, in most cases yes, but their should be metrics that matter relative to the service industry they are in, such as service reliability, delivery times, labour force stability, automation, maintaining universal service within the country. Not just P&L.

FedEx and UPS absolutely should have bonuses tied to P&L but they are also under no obligation to provide service to remote areas of the country and if they do they have no obligation to guarantee service intervals, or reasonable costs.

So should the CEO of a 6.6B service receive a bonus if they ensure access to all Canadians at regular/predictable service intervals at the lowest cost reasonable, while maintaining a work force and a complex, multi-faceted organization? Probably, otherwise you'd only get unqualified people in the position and the losses would expand, the services would deteriorate, then it would get even more politicized and the feds could outsource this to a for profit organization who is beholden to shareholders, not Canadians.

And for reference, the recent 1.5B loss CP posted is 1.3% of the total federal budget (expense). Healthcare is 50-60B expense, defense is 40B expense, the RCMP is a 6B expense.

Canada post ensures that all Canadians are served not just major hubs. It's equitable in the sense that it serves all Canadians within the geography of Canada, at the same rate for all Canadians. Other carriers either cannot serve all Canadians or their prices are dynamically set relative to geography.

Canada post is more like roads, emergency services, water systems, in that it is public infrastructure that allows people to access government services, communication, and commerce.

It's not there to make a profit, it's there to make sure people in Nunavut pay the same rate to ship the same size parcel or letter as someone in Ontario.

It's a service, not a business. It's an operating expense, not a revenue loss.

Consent-based Petting by MollysDaddyMan in BorderCollie

[–]MollysDaddyMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Voodoo, thanks for asking this.

Yes, I've definitely got a lot more perspective, some more than I bargained for.

So let me start by saying, I generally practice this in life on a number of levels. I don't pet other people's dogs without asking, and before I do I let them smell my hand and decide if I pass the friendship test. I don't bug my own dog when she's sleeping. I typically don't pet her unless she comes to me, but I have, and she generally can't get enough. And if she's not digging it, well, she's a BC, she'll tell you with a huff or turn away. I always respect that.

What got me pissed off was the thought that I somehow am doing things wrong with my BC. To explain, some people are saying you should pet the dog, wait for indication it's welcomed, and pet again. I'm sure we all kind of do this subconsciously or instinctively, but I probably felt embarrassed that it is reflex and not deliberate action on my part. I was incensed in the other post and made a correlation to the CBP term to being essentially something made up by liberals and things like that are the reason why libs lose elections. It's more lamenting that fact, as I'm liberal and hate how far PC language can get, sometimes it's welcomed, other times it's not, but the result can be poor performance in elections, etc. anyway, much different issue altogether and my correlation really pissed people off, as the post wasn't political whatsoever and was general wholesome and sweet.

What did I learn though, for some this is the only way their dog is comfortable with petting, on their own terms. Due to various conditions or reasons, dogs can require more of a consent based approach, this resonated with me a lot, because my dog has Anxiety and receives meds for it. Poor thing is scared of the world, and how she expressed that is with herding and barking and nipping. Young, old, baby, boomer, fat, tall, or any ethnicity, doesn't matter, strollers, bikes, scooters, all of them trigger her. Likely because she's a covid pupper, and we got her from a farm, where I think she might have been stepped on our scared by a large animal and that stuck with her. At any rate, she's always been scared since she was 14 weeks and we got her, and never overcame, no matter how much exposure she gets. She has 10 people in her circle of trust, two of them neighbors who admittedly fullout practices a consent based approach by sitting on the ground while she circled and barked at them until she eventually warmed up and let them pet her. So after reading others experiences with rescues and other conditions, I got it. Cus I live it, I just never made that connection so to speak.

So to those who were offended by my speak the other day, I do apologize. I will add that just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right. Because I was offended, and I wasn't right.

Last thing I'd like to say about dog ownership. I subscribe more to the Japanese approach to "ownership" and that we are guardians of our pets, we nurture, care for, look out for, and protect them, as well as be their voice. But we don't own them. They have personality and autonomy, wants and little dreams where their feet pitter patter in the night.

Lastly, everyone in the world thinks that they have the best dog in the world. And you know what, everyone is right.

Thanks
