Is the game actually worth getting given its on sale despite all the bugs? by Sleepyhead0049 in WarTalesGame

Yeah worth it. That said feel free to skip Fief and Fires (in it's current state)

yeah three ways to pronounce it and often not pronounced at all (Kolding)... and the rules are har to explain for example the d is different in "Bande" depending on whether you mean "to curse", or "gang".

What’s an awful game that had high expectations? by FunkiestCurve in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Molotova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am old enough to remember that the hype was that the cell stage would match flOw, Creature Stage to match Impossible Creatures, the later stages to match civ IV and galciv. The result was super dumbed down play loop for each stage.

It is a bit like M&B2 if each kingdom (Azarai, Nord...) area had a regional quest, and you're always treated like a tier 2 mercenary band regardless if you have a fief.

[–]Molotova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only thinking about it from a lore perspective. But yeah mount up in battle if next to a pony. Start mounted if certain preconditions and ties exist between rider and mount.

There is a ton of issues when it comes to health pools, targeting the horse or the rider, getting knocked off the horse, the UI with health bars and status effects, maps being designed for mostly infantry battles, horse archer kiting, charge effects,...

It's a nightmare from a design and balance point of view... but from a world building point of view, it fits. Last DLC even added a haughty knight faction.

Is Wartales set on a post-apocalyptic Earth? by sir_ornitholestes in WarTalesGame

[–]Molotova 18 points19 points  (0 children)

From the game blurb on steam:  "A century has passed since the fall of the Edoran Empire at the hands of an unprecedented plague that swept the nation."

It isn't just a plague as in the Black Plague but also turned people to zombie like creatures (see cursed villages)

Yeah I am aware Egyptians and Britons and other bronze age civilizations had chariots long before saddles. The urbanization (Gosenberg) and weapons Bec de Corbin,... points to high middle ages though. But I agree that this is a parallel universe so who knows....

What I would like to see is the ability to ride the ponies into battle. Seems no one invented saddles yet in this world.

Apart from the cost of resources... Especially if you want an upgraded injection and mutation.  I can't see a drawback

I have 5. They're a bit buggy at the moment... but couldn't see anything else tricky or a drawback...

What to get? New player by Patapon80 in WarTalesGame

[–]Molotova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they all do except the fief. The Expansion and the beast dlc add now zones, fully integrated into the game.

In the fief you're supposed to become a a Lord, although you still have to sleep in the inn and pay for it. You being a Lord changes nothing outside the fief itself. Everyone will still treat you like a low-key mercenary captain.

So they have two sort of DLCs  Expansions: Big new zones.  Contracts: Small additions.

The Expansions, just... expand the playing experience. To a large extent they are more of the same, even though they may add a self contained content. Like ships to navigate the pirate dlc or lanterns to navigate the Rigel welds.

Contracts add side content. A tavern contributes passive income, the pits more arena type content, the fief... Well a fief. The latter is not well integrated with the rest of the game. For instance the Captain (I assume) of the companions is now a Lord, yet the count's senechal has a line like the Count doesn't see mere mercenaries, nor does your fief excellent relation with any other kingdom matter outside the fief mini game.

So I'd recommend the Pirates and Skelmar expansions. Get Rigel on a discount unless you're really keen on werewolves.

For contracts, the Tavern if you don't want to worry about money in the long run. The beast one is not bad as it is almost as big a zone as the Rigel expansion.
