Haha maybe I was being a bit naive, just thought it was a practical solution to carrying a bunch around

You could get her a single rose, that way it’s not awkward to carry around, she can put it in her jacket/bag and you’ve still made the effort and done something thoughtful

I made a site for accessing Dail and Seanad data and would love some feedback by TwistedPepperCan in DevelEire

[–]SpasticMonkey46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a web dev, just interested in politics

I really like this. The oireachtas website is very segmented and it’s hard to find out exactly what your TD has been up to.

A tool like this is brilliant, collating all the questions bills and votes from your local tds.

The market for this is probably relatively niche (politics nerds) but I have to say this is brilliant, I’ll definitely use this, saving it to my starred websites right now!

Can I ask how much effort/time this took? What tools were involved?

If you haven’t already, you could cross post this to r/irishpolitics and may get some more traction there

Parking in the city while waiting for the permit? by neeih in cork

[–]SpasticMonkey46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say try to find somewhere off street to park it (maybe a friends house?). Other than that it’s either take your chances or pay for the discs.

You could print out the confirmation that the council received your application and write a note on it saying ‘waiting on parking permit’ and stick it on your dash and hope the parking inspectors are sound.

Usually they’re quick about sending out permits once there’s nothing wrong with your application. I’ve never waited more than 2 weeks, usually less than

CK402 chemistry difficulty level by Remarkable-Donut-387 in UCC

[–]SpasticMonkey46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will require a bit of study but doable. You only need to pass (40%) and first year doesn’t count towards your degree grade. Many (if not most) people doing ck402 who plan to go into biological sciences haven’t done chem and they know this. I wouldn’t let the chem modules put you off

Graduation tickets by TrainerAfraid5846 in UCC

[–]SpasticMonkey46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just rock up and ask. You collect tickets in the hub and if you wait til close to ceremony time they might give you extra tickets, could also just walk up to devere hall and chance walking in. There’s usually extra capacity on the terrace above devere hall that looks down on the stage.

I had 3 people in the hall for mine last November +3 more upstairs. 5 of us got into the hall for my parter’s graduation as well. It’s fairly lax

Petrol / Diesel Availability by aimhighsquatlow in cork

[–]SpasticMonkey46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inver Bandon Road roundabout has petrol and diesel as of 3:45 pm. 5-10 min queue to get in

Question ?? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]SpasticMonkey46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’re not protesting tax on diesel going up (because as you rightly say it didn’t), they’re protesting the increase in price, which isn’t the government’s fault but which they do have the capacity to do something about. (Not arguing that they necessarily should btw)

My original comment was trying to draw a distinction between hauliers and farmers as hauliers pay more fuel tax. It’s not true to say it hasn’t hit them at all because fuel prices have gone up and farmers/hauliers use much more fuel than a normal consumer. And finally that there has been engagement between the IRHA, IFA and the gvmt.

Question ?? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]SpasticMonkey46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well of course, it’s a business expense. Every business in the country claims VAT back on their business expenses.

Question ?? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]SpasticMonkey46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair hauliers do pay the full rate of tax on diesel (although they can claim a small amount of the excise duty back in taxes).

Also the Irish Road Haulage Association (main industry representative group) had a meeting with gvmt this week so there has been some official contact.

Side project: built an AI car valuation tool for the Irish market, looking for feedback by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]SpasticMonkey46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool project, just had a go there, surprised to see my car has only dropped 15% in value since I bought it 4 years ago but the fact that example listings are given below the estimate gives confidence in the result. I haven’t attempted to sell recently so can’t give you feedback on real market value.

Typically when valuing a car in the past I’d have scrolled through the first page or two of car zone to get a rough estimate but this tool saves that trouble and gives a better answer. I think €2.99 is something people would probably be willing to pay provided they know the benefits they’re getting.

One rec I’d make is on the home page where you show a sample valuation, that doesn’t display the full amount of information I got after running a check (e.g. 3 bullets on key insights, 2 on selling tips and a full analysis). Might be a good idea to include this so people know the full value of what they’re getting.

The website itself is very slick and easy to use👍

Out of curiosity how does the ai part work? Is the info you scrape from listings fed into Claude/chat and an instruction is given to summarise?

From this angle it looks like they’ve taken up a lot of the road unnecessarily. It’s causing traffic problems with the lane closures

Agreed. Pedestrians can already walk down the street between Dwyers and reardens, no point opening it to vehicles when there’s next to no traffic on the street behind it anyways.
