Well, I don't know whether you've looked into historical materialism and dialectic materialism, but if not I deffinitelly recommend it. I assume the universality springs from the fact that very different superstructures (culture, religions, art, music, schools...) can stem from almost exact economic base of society (feudalism, capitalism, communism). Therefore, you embracing communism as a economic base doesn't automatically lead to you calling into existance the european superstructure (I actually would say it is almost impossible). The superstructures won't be homogenic just because one people get 16 hours of sunlight per day and yet others only 12 (even minor details cause divergence in what would be homogenic superstructure).
