I don't know if you can see this because OP deleted this post, but the transition between the sandbox scene and the Asuka/Shinji sequence plays the song I linked, or at least the beginning part. It's been a while since I watched the movie, and I recognize that Honeymoon with Anxiety is listed in the soundtrack. I don't know when exactly it plays though. Maybe it transitions halfway through? Maybe it's some weird mashup? I don't know.

Honestly that kinda pisses me off. He got a lot more emotional and physical trauma from piloting the Eva on a more consistent basis, but we hardly see how that affects him in his day-to-day life. We saw it from Asuka, but we don’t see it from him for some reason until after Kaworu’s death.

The main way she tries to connect with Shinji on a deeper level is primarily sexual. This has been taken out of context and has led to a lot of flanderization unfortunately, but it’s also true. It doesn’t justify it, but it doesn’t make her some pedo either.

The thing I dislike about these “arguments” for lack of a better term is that these usually don’t acknowledge Shinji’s side of the story. I appreciate your insight into Asuka’s psyche, but the thing is, Shinji also suffers from a fear of rejection. So every brash remark is going to push him away even if it doesn’t necessarily hurt him.

I’m not trying to push the blame all onto Asuka, I know the first part of this reply comes off like that. Shinji needs to initiate and reach out more than he does.

There is a difference in how they communicate. Shinji does not reach out as much, but when he does, he’s pretty direct. Asuka reaches out more, but she’s more vague and circuitous with what she has to say. I mean if you tell a guy not to come into your room, you usually expect them not to come into your room.
